Wellstar Douglas in Douglasville, Georgia is seeking a PRN Radiology Tech Intern. The Radiology Tech Intern assists with providing safe, age appropriate care to the patient by performing only the exams they have been deemed competent to perform according to department procedures with the knowledge and ability to properly and safely obtain a quality diagnostic study. Responsible for performing a limited variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgement, ingenuity and initiative in the utilization of the equipment for the diagnosis and/or treatment of diseases. Assist with PACs and EPIC documentation, help maintain exam room, and assists with the performance of contrasted exams. The Radiology Tech Intern reports directly to Chief Tech of Diagnostic Radiology and/or Site Manager. Key responsibilities of the role include: Performing diagnostic radiology procedures while always keeping radiation reduction techniques in mind. Ability to explain the exam to be performed and answer customer questions accurately. Operate and adjust exposure factors optimize image quality. Position patient properly utilizing critical thinking skills when necessary. Follow procedures to keep radiation exposure to customer and self to prevent unnecessary exposure.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Completed Competencies in the following exams:
- Chest (routine and portable)
- All extremities
- Abdomen (supine and decubitus)
- Once deemed competent on an exam, the Special Call Technologist can independently perform the exam with indirect supervision. Competent with Computer Data Entry and PACS system
- Completes appropriate navigators within EPIC to begin exam, end the exam and include other pertinent information as required per policy and procedure.
- Able to appropriately utilize the PACS system and complete task in the appropriate order.
Communication
- Able to communicate to fellow staff members, patients and their family members, physicians, nurses and staff at all levels within the organization.
- Knows the existing lines of communication and authority, handles communication properly and is dependable cooperative and emotionally stable.
- Recognizes that total patient care begins when the patient enters our facility and does not end until the physician/customer has the imaging result.
- Answers phone in department in a courteous and respectful manner
Patient Safety and Quality
- Verifies written orders
- Transport patient to and from ED or IP as needed.
- Participates in QA / QC projects as needed
- Must be flexible with scheduled hours to meet departmental needs.
- Provides privacy for patients / customers.
Required Minimum Education:
- Currently enrolled in an AMA approved School of Radiologic. Required
Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):
All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) required
Additional License(s) and Certification(s): n/a
Required Minimum Experience:
- Successful completion of first quarter of clinical rotation. Required
Required Minimum Skills:
- Competency in limited aspects of Diagnostic Radiology, patient positioning, exposure factors and radiation protection. (see list below)
- Must have an understanding of anatomy and pathology as to how they affect the quality of a procedure.
- Computer/data entry experience.
- Ability to communicate with various members of the healthcare team.
- Epic experience preferred.
