Yes, Wendy’s really serves only fresh, never frozen beef in all of our restaurants throughout the US, and QSCC is looking for the person that wants to buy that beef! The Director – Beef Procurement will contribute to the growth and profitability of The Wendy’s Company and QSCC’s Members by leading purchasing strategies, optimizing programs and processes, and building supplier relationships. They will act as Wendy’s brand liaison and beef category subject matter expert for QSCC. This individual is an experienced protein procurement professional and will provide strong leadership in the areas of strategy, cost management, commodity program development, supplier management, project management and internal/external customer service. Additionally, they will ensure timely supply of high-quality products, while focusing on cost reduction initiatives and strategies to move this flagship Category forward and ensure no one has to ask, “Where’s the Beef?”

- Operating Unit: Wendy’s International Inc. - U.S.
- Locations: ~6,500 restaurants (95% franchised, 5% company)
RESPONSIBILITIES
- In consultation with the Vice President of Procurement, develop and implement 3-5 year sourcing strategies for assigned. Manage sourcing processes for assigned categories, in order to ensure an uninterrupted supply of products and services. Guarantee that beef sourced meets or exceeds Wendy’s, QSCC, industry, FDA and USDA regulations and guidelines.
- Create a cross-functional working environment to engage suppliers, internal key stakeholders – both Wendy’s and QSCC – and other strategic development partners in order to drive continuous innovation.
- Understand various industry and product dynamics, such as: influential component prices, seasonality, demand, menu changes, trends, forecasting, and industry and business trends. Analyze commodity indices and partner with the Commodity Risk Management team to develop relevant and forward-thinking hedging strategies.
- Develop long-term supplier relationships & partnerships in a manner that upholds high ethical standards and adheres to our values.
- Develop and implement key performance metrics for the category, including supplier partnerships.
- Conduct benchmarking activities, business reviews and evaluation programs for assigned categories. Attend cross-functional meetings and may represent QSCC and our image.
- Research and develop supplier operations and products. Visit supplier plants, distribution centers and Wendy’s Restaurants as necessary.
- Serve as mentor and coach to other team members
- Performs other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of eight years of experience in Protein Procurement and Supply Chain Management (strongly preferred)
- Bachelors Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management or Logistics (or equivalent combination of education and experience). MBA in Economics, Supply Chain or Finance preferred.
- Demonstrated understanding of (Commodity) Risk Management programs and strategies
- Demonstrated understanding of end-to-end Supply Chain, including programs, distribution & logistics, procurement, QA, culinary, and commercialization.
- Broad understanding of the Foodservice Industry and supplier community
- Elevated standards related to communication and customer service. Experience communicating with and influencing senior-level leadership.
- Informed and up to date on US and Canadian government and industry regulations and guidelines.
