Classified Position

Title & Terms of Employment:

• Maintenance & Grounds/Custodial Worker
• This position is full-time (40 hours/week) beginning immediately with possibility of renewal in July for upcoming 24-25 FY.
• Salary dependent on experience, call for questions 970-864-7350.

Reports to: Superintendent and Facility Manager

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• General knowledge of school building/grounds and equipment use and maintenance.
• Demonstrated aptitude or competence in position’s responsibilities.
• Ability to effectively work with administrators, employees, students, vendors and the public in a pleasant and respectful manner.
• Previous experience in obtaining supplies, materials and services.
• Record keeping knowledge and skills.
• Ability to receive proper certification(s) as directed.
• Ability to work without direct supervision and prioritize workload.
• Ability to perform strenuous physical activity.
• Ability to withstand extreme weather conditions.
• Hold a current driver’s license.

Job Nature and Scope: To maintain all building and property in a condition of operating excellence at all times to provide for educational use. In addition, to make sure that school grounds are kept safe and aesthetically pleasing.

Essential Duties

Buildings Maintenance:

● Keep in compliance with all state, federal and local regulations concerning the maintenance department. Monitor compliance with regulations regarding radon, asbestos and water, and keep updated on new developments.

● Consult with building Facility director regarding establishment of regular preventative maintenance plans as well as a daily maintenance program.

● Examine school buildings on a regular basis for needed repairs and maintenance.

● Collaborate with maintenance director to deal with emergency repair problems with efficiency.

● Removal of snow to maintain a safe environment for students, staff and all other visitors.

● Be on call during normal workday for miscellaneous clean-up, repair and maintenance work as needed. Also be on call at all times for emergency work.

● Assist with custodial staff when necessary.

Grounds Maintenance:

● Maintain school grounds - mow and/or spray for weed control; mow, fertilize, aerate and water football field, baseball field, lawns, etc. Monitor grounds for needed trash removal. Ensure that all trees and shrubs are trimmed as necessary.

● Install and maintain sprinkler systems. Work with Athletic Director and coaches to set scheduled watering times when applicable.

● Work with coaches to mark lines on athletic fields for games and drag and level baseball fields as necessary.

● Install and maintain school ground fences as needed.

● Remove snow from school grounds, driveways, parking lots, etc.

General:

● Assist with repair projects.

● Maintain all records as are required.

● Recommend/employ contractors to perform specialized maintenance/repair services which cannot be completed through use of school staff.

● Attend classes/seminars and receive all necessary certifications as required.

● Keep the administration informed at all times of any problems or special information.

● Perform such other services as may be assigned by administration to expedite maintenance needs of the district.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

Must be able to stand, walk, kneel, crouch, bend, stoop, reach, twist, push, pull or carry up to 50 pounds and be able to withstand extreme weather conditions. Must have the ability to work on ladders, to operate machinery, use hand tools; work in confined spaces and in close contact with chemicals.
