For more information regarding the benefit package go to: West Texas A&M University: Human Resources Benefits General Summary The Veterans Affairs Coordinator, under direction of the Senior Director of Campus Community, oversees the functions and operations of Military and Veteran Services to ensure compliance with the Texas Veterans Commission and the State Approving Agency. The coordinator provides information and academic counseling to active military, veterans, and dependents of veterans concerning their Veterans Administration Education benefits. When needed, they will assistance in coordination programming for campus community. Responsibilities: Executes Veterans Administration (VA) certification process. Advises veterans and veteran dependents regarding educational benefits. Provides information concerning financial aid and VA benefits. Maintains student files to track progress and report changes to the VA. Prepares and transmits electronic enrollment and certifications to VA via VAONCE. Establishes and maintains cooperative and professional working relationships with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and community agencies. Maintain proficiency and provides excellent customer service in areas of responsibility. Determines eligibility of Hazlewood Act benefits. Monitor credit hours for students and provide data to other institutions. Provides benefits counseling and enhances the transition for military members. Post tuition adjustments in the Colleague Student Information System. Coordinates services with other University departments with the goal of increasing campus community. Assists with the coordination of community outreach activities. Interprets and evaluates information to oversee compliance with the Texas A&M University System mandate, Mission Military Friendly. Adheres to Service members Opportunity Colleges (SOC) practices. Expands military-friendly services and programs on campus. Secures annual approval for the University’s designation as an approval facility to certify and train veterans. Prepares documentation for annual audits. Supervises and trains student workers to provide quality customer service. Assists with counter coverage, answering of office phones, registration, graduation, and other office support duties. Necessary Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience. Two (2) years of related experience in managing and processing military and veteran student records. Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications. Knowledge of veteran’s benefits. Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree Five (5) years of related experience in processing educational benefits School Certifying Official Working knowledge of the “VA Office” certification program. Familiarity with the processes related to the Hazlewood Act.
