JOB SUMMARY: The HR Generalist is responsible for daily administration of employee benefit programs and coordination of the coverage. This role also coordinates and conducts new hire orientation, assists with the administration of Human Resources policies, procedures, and processes that pertain to employee relations. Under the supervision of the Regional HR Manager, the HR Generalist also assists employees with benefits-related inquiries, open enrollment, and HR-related projects and initiatives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Safety
- Actively cares, promotes, manages, and advocates safety at Western States. As a leader and team member in the organization, it is critical to ensure all employees, vendors, and clients have a safe work environment while adhering to all applicable safety policies, procedures, and standards.
- Maintains clean/clutter free personal work areas to ensure safe environment for all WSECO employees.
- Adhering to required personal protective equipment (PPE) as identified in safety policy.
HR Support and Processes
- Coordinates daily benefits processing. Processes enrollments, terminations, changes and beneficiaries. Explains and works with employees on benefits questions and issues. Escalates issues as needed to Regional HR Manager. Enters benefit information into HRIS and vendor systems. Assists Regional HR Manager with benefits documents and tracking.
- Assists Regional HR Manager with planning and organizing open enrollment processes and materials. Conducts open enrollment meetings across territory.
- Plans, designs, and executes Benefits/Wellness communications and promotions.
- Maintains HR SharePoint site.
- Conducts new hire orientation via webinar for all locations. Explains company policies, procedures and benefits during new hire orientation. Collects employment paperwork from new employees in allotted time.
- Assists Employees with HR and company policies and procedures.
- Supports Regional HR Manager regarding employee relations documentation.
- Maintains an exceptionally high level of confidentiality in all aspects of the position daily.
- Maintains HR Processes and updates Benefits processes as needed.
- Assists Regional HR Manager with quarterly Western Shares invoicing.
- Adheres to all customer care standards.
- Work within and promote corporate vision, mission, and values of the organization.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Working knowledge of benefits, employment law, and labor law.
- Working knowledge of technology including HRIS the Microsoft suite of products.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- Strong detail orientation and multitasking skills.
- Ability to travel within and outside of the territory for HR/benefit events.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Ability to relate to, influence and coach employees at all levels in the organization.
- Consistent attendance.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources or similar discipline preferred. Equivalent experience accepted.
- Minimum three years of Human Resources or similar experience required.
- Minimum one year of Benefits Administration experience preferred.
- Minimum one-year HRIS experience required, UKG preferred.
- Current PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SCP preferred.
- Must be able to communicate (speak, read, comprehend, write in English).
PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS:
- Must be able to sit for long periods along with walking, standing, climbing stairs, reaching pushing, pulling, leaning and twisting.
- Able to lift up to 30 lbs. in accordance with Western States’ Lifting Safe Work Practice to include amount and approach.
- Must be able to meet all safety requirements for applicable safety policies.
