Billing Analyst

Job Description Position Summary The billing analyst is responsible primarily for processing enrollments and managing the accuracy of customer information in our customer information system. The analyst reconciles customer information from multiple sources and works with individual utilities where there are discrepancies. The analyst also processes customer cancellations and at all times, maintains updated customer status in the information system. The analyst is considered the primary subject matter expert for enrollments for both gas and electric customers. Tasks and Responsibilities • Prepare customer enrollment files and transmit to local distribution companies (utilities). • Determine data required, query the correct databases. Analyze data to determine whether the queries have resulted in acceptable and reasonable data. If data is problematic, determine reason then devise and implement solution. • Process customer cancellations and terminations and maintain account status information in databases. • Review termination and cancellation data from other organizations. Determine what should be validated and method for validation. Send batch termination information to utilities and update databases. • Prepare reports and ad hoc queries as required for various operations, marketing and other business purposes. • Work with requesting party to determine and clarify what information is required, what is available, and the best method for producing information from the database. • Reconcile customer lists with local distribution company customer lists. • Gather data from one or more sources and compare against utility data. Determine how to research discrepancies and conduct appropriate investigation. Work with utilities as necessary to resolve discrepancies. • Perform billing and enrollment problem resolution. • Work with internal departments and external vendors to resolve issues that have been escalated. Guide and implement problem resolution process. Determine scope and nature of research required; survey and analyze multiple cycles of billing and usage data and contact utility as necessary to define problem from operations perspective. Devise and implement solutions in conjunction with other parties as appropriate. • Working with utilities, fellow Business/Data Analysts, call center personnel, review and revise business and data processes as appropriate to accommodate end-user requirements. • Prepare billing files and transmit as appropriate. • Determine data required, query the correct databases and combine and format data appropriately. Download and export data as necessary. • Perform quality assurance on bills. On a daily basis, review test billing files from utilities. Determine sample data and calculations to be reviewed and method for review. Work with utilities to resolve discrepancies. • Verify billing accuracy. • Review monthly reports on rates and usage from utilities. Determine if data is correct given information provided to utilities. Check for missing billing, double billing and other problems. Work with utility or call center and escalate as appropriate to achieve resolution. Qualifications, Skills and Abilities • Bachelor's Degree (preferred Accounting, Finance, or related quantitative discipline) required • 3 Years of analytical experience in a business environment required • Proficient in data manipulation and analysis using tools such as MS Excel, Pivot Tables, Excel add-ons • Ability to work accurately with and analyze large sets of numerical data • Ability to handle daily deadlines and multiple projects • Ability to be adaptable and deal with uncertainty • Ability to work independently and exercise discretion when making business decisions regarding daily work • Database skills a plus (Access/Oracle) WGL is an EO employer – M/F/Vets/Disabled For Canadian hires: AltaGas hires personnel on the basis of job-related qualifications.
