As a Chef at What Coffee Roastery and Bakery, you will oversee all kitchen operations at our café and be responsible for the success and growth of your kitchen team. The ability to engage, inspire, and lead a strong team is essential. A passion for creating amazing food from scratch and providing genuine hospitality is fundamental at What Coffee Roastery and Bakery. You will be responsible for overall kitchen execution in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
Scope of Responsibilities:
- Establish kitchen guidance, develop recipes, and create menus. (Regular cafe menu & brunch menu)
- Manage production and service.
- Follow standardized recipes, portioning, and presentation standards. Utilize daily production worksheets and waste log sheets. Ensure quality by tasting completed meals.
- Train kitchen staff in food preparation, safe handling, equipment operation, food safety, and sanitation.
- Establish and maintain cleaning and maintenance schedules for equipment, storage, and work areas. Ensure kitchen staff follows and completes schedules as assigned.
- Maintain inventory while ensuring necessary products are available when needed.
- Adhere to company safety and sanitation policies and procedures, including occurrence reporting.
- Participate in departmental meetings, staff development, and professional programs as appropriate.
- Implement seasonal menu changes.
Working Conditions / Essential Functions:
- Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule based on sales trends and business needs, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Capable of working ten-hour-plus shifts and standing, sitting, squatting, or walking for extended periods.
- Able to grasp, reach overhead, push, lift, and carry up to 50 pounds.
Position Requirements:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive culinary/kitchen management experience, depending on formal degree or training.
- Proven passion for culinary excellence and exceeding guest expectations.
- Knowledge and proficiency in systems, methods, and processes that contribute to great execution.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate professionally and effectively.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
- High School education or equivalent.
