What are the responsibilities and job description for the Teller position at Whatcom Educational Cre?

WECU is seeking a Teller to join our Lynden branch located in Lynden, WA. This is a full time position in which you will be scheduled to work roughly 40 hours per week.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Contributes to the organization's mission statement and goals by providing the highest quality of service, treating each person professionally - with warmth, courtesy and respect, cross-selling additional services, and making a personal effort to make members feel they belong and are important to the credit union.
  • Employs sound judgement, maintains knowledge of and, using decision-making skills, adheres to all standards on internal and external policies and procedures and BSA regulations.
  • Understands and complies with branch security procedures at all times.
  • Welcomes members, understands their needs, and processes a wide variety of transactions
  • Interview members to obtain information and explain available financial services, such as savings and checking accounts, Individual Retirement Account, Certificates of Deposit and in order in increase the member relationship.
  • May assist members with access to safe deposit boxes.
  • Studies manuals and marketing materials to maintain knowledge of credit union products and services.
  • Ability to quote rates including annual percentage yield.
  • Performs such other duties as assigned including, but not limited to check balancing, processing check orders, address changes, filing, answering telephone, processing mail and night deposits, and occasional working at other branches or departments.
  • Opens, operates, and closes computer terminal daily to accurately post transactions, access account information, balance transactions and update member account transactions and information. Accounts for cash assigned and disbursed. Balances to service terminal in accordance with credit union balancing standards.
  • Refers members for other WECU financial services to ensure member satisfaction and consistently meet referrals goals. Assists in sales and member service promotional efforts.
  • Performs such other member service functions that might be needed from time to time and assists others to complete tasks and work assignments.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Preferred: related experience and/or training as a teller/service representative, customer service with cash handling or equivalent combination of education and experience. Relevant training in a credit union, bank, or other financial institution. Bi-lingual Spanish a plus.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Should effectively present information in one-on-one situations to members, potential members, and other employees of the credit union.
  • Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization, regarding routine matters for the purposes of giving or obtaining information, which may require some discussion.
  • Ability to operate general office machines and equipment such as photocopier, fax, adding machine, computer, and currency and coin counter. Ability to accurately add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

COMPENSATION:

  • The salary range for this position is from $19.00 to $24.99 per hour.
