Wheaton Bible Church (WBC) is a dynamic, thriving, diverse community of people seeking to grow in biblical understanding and to serve the Lord in the western suburbs of Chicago. We have an exciting opportunity for someone to serve as our next Executive Director or Executive Pastor of Administration. Our current Executive Pastor will be retiring after 20 years of faithful service and will be leaving us with a unique and strong stewardship legacy and model that will carry us forward in God’s call for Wheaton Bible church.
ABOUT THE POSITION:
This strategic leadership position will serve the Lord and build up His church as a godly leader, equipper, and administrator. In partnership with the Senior Pastor and Pastoral Leadership Team (PLT), this role advances the mission, values, and goals of WBC by contributing to the big-picture organizational strategy and working alongside the PLT to make the goals actionable.
Primary responsibilities are to oversee church-wide finances, staffing, development, operating systems, and processes that WBC uses to deploy our mission and values. Lead and develop the ministry services staff and functions, and in partnership with the Executive Pastor of Ministry, help shape the culture of the staff and the church. Play a key leadership role by working with the Senior Pastor, pastoral and ministry leadership teams, and department directors.
This role will complement the Senior Pastor and other staff. He or she must possess a mix of relational, operational, and spiritual gifts. The church’s mission is vast in scope with many priorities, resulting in a role which requires a Christ-like approach to the efficient execution of church operations.
Churchwide Strategy and Leadership.
  • Provide oversight, counsel, and support for the Finance, HR, Operations, Technology, Security, Communications, Legal, and Generosity functions, including overall processes at WBC, positioning the church for current ministry effectiveness and future missional goals, while filtering all administrative decisions through the lens of biblical and pastoral wisdom.
  • Ensure the operational readiness of the church through leadership and oversight of the ministry services staff and functions.
  • Champion church-wide Generosity Development and Biblical Stewardship strategy and initiatives.
  • Oversee the development of the annual ministry financial plans and enhance stewardship through the strategic allocation of finances, staff, and facility resources to accomplish the mission strategic plan. Participate on the Finance Committee.
  • Present at Annual Church Meeting and provide updates to congregation and ministries as needed.
Strategic Leadership with the Board of Elders
Leadership and Team Development:
  • Lead and develop leaders and growth in the staff, ministries, and church.
  • Provides operational oversight and advises and supervises the ministry support staff.
  • Supervise, manage, develop, pastor and review personnel on a regular basis, providing coaching, encouragement, training, accountability, and direction.
  • Coach and oversee the establishment of short- and long-term goals for each ministry services area.
  • Help create, model, and protect a healthy staff culture that honors and represents our mission and values.
  • Develop structure that drives teamwork and collaboration.
Core Qualifications:
  • Committed to holiness and developing your personal walk with Jesus in order to model and lead others in their faith.
  • If married, commit to living in accord with God’s instructions for marriage in your home. (Eph. 5:22-33; 1 Pet. 3:1-7).
  • Disciple your children to know God and love Him. The active and strategic discipleship of your own children must be a higher priority than your discipleship of others.
  • Be faithful and sacrificial in giving. Set an example by contributing financially to Kingdom work through the local church.
  • Display enthusiasm and passion for the mission and values of WBC.
  • Committed to recognizing and cultivating the command of disciple making.
Requirements:
  • Ten plus years in an operational management role, preferably with experience in a church or mission environment.
  • MBA or equivalent post-graduate education a plus; biblical education or equivalent foundation in experience. Business and/or Organizational Development experience is a plus.
  • Leadership ability to train and nurture staff for growth and development, including excellent managerial skills with a pastor's heart. Proven ability to lead at the executive level.
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
  • Must be able to see big-picture strategy while creating tactical plans that support that strategy.
  • Wired as an activator, problem-solver, implementor, delegator, developer, steward, leader, team builder. A servant’s heart with a Kingdom perspective.
  • Proven organizational skills with the ability to multitask, excellent decision-making skills.
  • Relational skills in multi-ethnic and multi-generational contexts, including a heart and understanding of WBC’s global and local missions focus.
  • Strong knowledge of corporate procedures (finance, HR, operations, legal, IT) with outstanding process and project management skills.
  • Alignment with and commitment to assisting the ministries of the church in fulfilling our mission and values.
  • Acceptance and agreement with WBC Statement of Doctrine and Faith and WBC Statement of Christian Lifestyle.
  • Become an active member and participant in the life of WBC.
