Creative Operations (Volunteer)

Are you a managerial problem solver who loves to work with creatives? Would you find it exciting to work with smart and talented individuals committed to producing great journalism in the public interest? Can you commit 10 hours a week to our mission, working remotely, on your own schedule, with our far-flung, diverse team? 

 

WhoWhatWhy is seeking a smart, meticulous Creative Operations Coordinator to collect, prioritize, delegate, and track work on a wide range of creative projects, including branding, logos, social media content, etc. A qualified candidate should have strong organizational and interpersonal skills; they should also be highly experienced in the production of creative content, and able to multitask.  

 

WhoWhatWhy.org is a nonpartisan, agenda-free news organization. Not left-wing, not right-wing, not consensus-seeking; we report the truth, whatever it is. We approach each story with an open mind, boundless curiosity, and a willingness to dig deep beneath the surface.  And we certainly don’t back away in the face of pressure from powerful institutions and groupthink. 

 

Our organization is a nonprofit that is not funded by a zillionaire. We do not accept corporate ads. As such, we are only currently able to pay a small core team, as well as experienced professional freelancers,  relying primarily on skilled volunteers to fill out our growing organizational infrastructure. 

 

Age does not matter. We have among us young students, vibrant retirees, and everything in between from all walks of life.

Responsibilities

  • Attend weekly team calls and record ideas, concerns, and suggestions on behalf of everyone on the team. 
  • Solidify each item to determine the next steps, follow up with creatives and department stakeholders to ensure long and short-term deadlines are met.
  • Provide a daily managerial role within a growing Creative Department, as designers and creative personnel focus on artistic projects needed for the company.
  • Foster and develop administrative support while operationalizing an exponentially evolving department.
  • Facilitate daily and long-term goals/projects. 
  • Participate in brainstorms about digital creative and marketing strategies.

 

Qualifications 

  • 2 - 5 years experience in a managerial and/or administrative role within a creative field.
  • Ability to work in a virtual, fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize workflow, and effectively meet deadlines.

Expectations 

You will be expected to attend your department’s recurring meetings. Beyond this, you will work on your own schedule. We ask for a minimum commitment of 6 months for at least 10 hours a week. Because our team is spread throughout the world, we rely on a combination of Slack, email, and conference calls, and expect everyone to be responsive in a timely manner.
