Position Summary:
The Institutional Research Analyst develops and maintains the data systems employed by Institutional Research; produces standard institutional research reports; supports the maintenance of departmental web pages; and responds to both scheduled and ad hoc internal and external requests for data. The position has major responsibilities for systems efficiencies and data quality assurance.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following functions, which are not listed in any particular order of significance:
  • Provides systems support to the Office of Institutional Research in order to ensure that accurate institutional data are available in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Provides systems support to the department's campus surveys.
  • Accesses institutional databases (e.g., Datatel ERP system) for data required to perform the department's functions.
  • Collects, compiles, analyzes and reports data on students, instructional offerings, personnel and any other aspects of the university or the external environment.
  • Helps to ensure data integrity and consistency across institutional data systems through systems design and data cleaning/reconciliation.
  • Identifies and helps implement improvements in the department's data resources and report production processes in order to help assure that departmental operations are at an appropriate state of the art and level of efficiency.
  • Works with Administrative Computing on the development and maintenance of departmental data marts.
  • Implements quality control activities for data used by the department and works with other offices to resolve data inconsistencies.
  • Works with Administrative Computing and systems personnel in other offices such as Admissions and Financial Aid, Registrar, the undergraduate and graduate and professional schools' deans, Advancement, Financial Affairs and Human Resources to assure timely, consistent, and complete data across data systems.
    Locates, retrieves, and analyzes data from assessment and evaluation surveys, institutional databases, and web-based resources.
  • Administers evaluation of instruction surveys and reporting of evaluation results across the institution.
  • Assists in the preparation and maintenance of narrative reports, statistical reports, records, and files related to research and data collection findings and results.
  • Maintains the department's Fact Book and Common Data Set.
  • With the Asst. Provost, hires/supervises student or scholarship employees.
  • Represents the department, as appropriate, in groups and discussions relating to systems development and consistency at Willamette University.




MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • BA/BS or equivalent combination of education/training and additional experience may be substituted for BA/BS degree where such experience demonstrates that the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities delineated below.
  • At least two years of experience in the collection, compilation, and analysis of data.
  • Ability to build, document, and maintain and query databases in support of institutional research, assessment and planning is essential.
  • Knowledge and experience with database tools.
  • Knowledge of data warehouses and report production.
  • Proficiency using standard desktop computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software.
  • Knowledge and experience with web site construction and maintenance.
  • Ability to assist in preparing reports and oral presentations that communicate analyses and research findings to internal and external audiences in a manner that is clear, concise and appropriate to the audience.
  • Exercise of discretion and ability to work with highly sensitive data and maintain its confidentiality and security.
  • Adherence to Federal and university policies regarding access to, use of, and release of confidential information and data security.

Preferred Qualifications
  • A degree in systems or computing.
  • One year of analytical experience in higher education.
  • Systems skills and knowledge is desirable. Familiarity with statistical packages including SPSS.
