What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sr. Planning Engineer position at Wind Energy Transmission Texas?
The Senior Planning Engineer reports to the Director of Transmission Planning. This position provides transmission planning analysis and electrical engineering technical support for the planning, construction, and operation of WETT’s transmission system. Performs system studies, analyzes simulated or actual operating results; Propose transmission system upgrades and solutions to solve system issues; Manages generation and load interconnection projects; Maintain planning modeling; Develops tools to facilitate transmission planning simulations; Maintain WETT transmission planning related procedures; Support system operations and engineering teams.
Responsibilities
- Leads and performs steady-state analyses, short-circuit, and dynamic stability analyses with minimum direction of management; Analyzes study results and formulates conclusions and recommendations, determine the need for system upgrades, prepares reports and presentations.
- Manages transmission planning, generation interconnection, and load interconnection projects as assigned.
- Creates and maintain power flow, dynamics, and short circuit models of WETT system.
- Participates and represents WETT in ERCOT stakeholder meetings and working groups.
- Works closely with WETT internal departments, ERCOT, utilities, generation and load developers, and third-party consultants on transmission, generation, and load interconnection projects.
- Assures related compliance with NERC (including but not limited to TPL, MOD, CIP, and FAC) and ERCOT standards related to WETT facilities.
- Supports system operations to ensure the reliable operation of WETT facilities; Supports engineering team on the design and construction of transmission facilities.
- Serves as a technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the planning department. May act as a lead, assigning tasks and providing guidance to lower-level engineers.
- Maintains knowledge of emerging trends and industry best practices.
Experience and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited university.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer in Texas preferred; consideration may be given to candidates with strong technical skills.
- A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in transmission planning of electrical utilities.
- Experience within the electric utility industry, including TSPs and ERCOT, preferred.
- Experience assisting in the development of improvements to transmission planning processes and familiarity with NERC and ERCOT reliability standards.
- Expert level skills of power system software applications and tools like PSSE, TARA, and ASPEN.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Products including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
- Excellent verbal & written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.
