Position Summary
Position Summary
This position reports to the Vice Chancellor of Finance and Administration and functions as the senior facilities services representative with internal and external agencies.

The AVC for Facilities Management must be a skilled communicator and strategic leader who is charged to transform Facilities Services into a cohesive organization leveraging technology and best practices to comprehensively manage the campus physical environment. The AVC will structure an organization that delivers quality construction and renovation projects on time and on budget; utilize data and metrics to inform building operations and maintenance; strengthen communication and working relationships between Facilities Services and the campus community to increase credibility and trust; facilitate long-term planning to ensure that campus renewal meets the evolving needs of the institution and remains fully aligned with the strategic direction of the University; serve as a politically astute spokesperson and leader for the University on physical planning, development, construction, and facilities and operations issues.

Department Required Skills
Bachelor’s degree is required with preferred area of Engineering, Architecture, Construction and Building Management or related degree.

A minimum of seven years progressively responsible administrative experience in a large, complex organization.

Demonstrated capacity for effective leadership and team building.

Strong management and organizational skills.

Excellent analytical and communications skills (both oral and written) and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels and to diverse audiences.

Demonstrated capabilities in planning, budgeting, and management in the facilities area.

Thorough knowledge of large, complex facilities administration and maintenance, including HVAC, electrical utility systems and energy management programs.

Demonstrated ability to maximize efficiencies in capital renewal, deferred maintenance, and operations.

Knowledge of trades and materials related to management and maintenance of institutional facilities.

High degree of motivation and interest in serving the needs of the university.

Demonstrated ability to develop and monitor metrics to ensure the university is operating efficiently and effectively serving campus needs while meeting budgetary parameters.

Strong customer service orientation and the capacity to build a customer service focused culture.

Vested interest in promoting the professional development, growth and morale of Facilities Services staff.

Ability to analyze problems, trouble-shoot and identify alternative solutions.

Knowledge and experience leveraging technology to guide building maintenance and operations.

Collaborative, working in partnership with other campus leaders, units, and project stakeholders.

Communicative and effective in aligning partners and staff to a strategic plan.

Strong personal integrity, ethics, initiative, and emotional intelligence.

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
Master’s degree preferred. Registration/Certification in a related profession preferred. University work experience preferred.
