The Engineering Manager is responsible for developing new products and manufacturing processes. By working with the sales department, products are developed based on customer needs and requirements, an appropriate design is made, and the total cost is determined. The Engineering Manager works with manufacturing and testing to develop prototypes and initial manufacturing runs and test them per customer expectations. They will also be responsible for researching and developing new ideas and technology as it enters the marketplace, as well as develop new product lines and expand existing ones.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop and implement design standards and work instructions to ensure robust, capable practices and processes are available.
- Consistently apply scientific principles and design standards during the execution of technical work.
- Project Management of R&D projects which are appropriate in scope and duration.
- Maintain controlled documents, such as designs, in all mediums required.
- Evaluate and answer requests for product evaluations.
- Analyze and improve existing products as requested or required.
- Study emerging technologies to understand if or how they can be leveraged to create new products or improve existing products.
- Works with vendors to keep informed of new machinery and raw materials and uses that knowledge to develop new products and more efficient processes.
- Formulates new rope designs and cost quotations in a timely manner so that sales is able to pass these on to the customer.
- Navigate and manage ERP system.
Supervisory Responsibility
Will supervise the Application Engineer on:
- Modify existing products or design and develop custom solutions for customers
- Model standard costs for new products using ERP system
- Navigate ERP systems and assist in the development of streamlined ERP processes
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, mechanical or materials preferred
- Self-starter with proven track record; work independently without close supervision
- Ability to interact with all levels of personnel and communicate effectively orally and in writing
- Proficient Excel and MS office experience
- Excellent organizational skills
