Job summary

We are recruiting for a Band 6 Team Leader Aseptic Services for 12 months who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a keen and reliable individual to join the Pharmacy Aseptic Unit at Arrowe Park Hospital, Wirral.

This position will involve working within the Pharmacy team and alongside a multi-disciplinary team of health and wellbeing professionals to deliver high quality services to patients.

A key part of this role will be to provide administrative and clerical support to the pharmacy aseptic unit.

You will partake in an in-house training program of development to ensure high standards of patient care are maintained and will have the opportunity to be involved in service development and procedures implementation of our aseptic services.

Main duties of the job

The Job Description outlines the roles of an Aseptic Services Team Leader Technician. You will provide support to the Chief / Deputy Chief Technicians and other senior Aseptic Services staff carrying out ordering, stock control, cleaning and monitoring of the aseptic facility.

You will also work in the support areas of the aseptic suite setting up product trays for products to be made and carrying out the compounding of aseptic products.

You will be required to communicate complex Information effectively; verbally, in writing and where appropriate using electronic formats, with colleagues, customers and staff from other professions on Aseptic products and supervision related issues.

Concentration will be required for periods of two hours or longer, session ally, to observe and supervise product preparation and complete documents.

Carry out self and in -process checks throughout the production process.

This position is a fixed term contract for 12 months to cover maternity leave.

Qualifications, Specific Experience & Training

Essential

  • NVQ Level 3 in Pharmaceutical Sciences / BTEC in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent
  • Able to use initiative to identify and implement departmental changes
  • Management Qualification or equivalent experiential learning achieved via experience of managing a team of technicians

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Demonstrate an understanding of MHRA and GMP practices and standards which must be adhered to maintain manufacturing and specials licenses
  • Extensive experience of using pharmacy computerised stock control systems
  • Organised and able to prioritise own work and that of others to ensure that objectives are met within agreed deadlines
  • Ability to plan and organise day to day activity and staffing resource within aseptic services to ensure products are available safely in a timely manner
  • Excellent keyboard and computer skills (email, databases, spreadsheets, word processing and presentation software)

  • Significant post qualification experience
  • Experience of handling conflict including concerns raised by patients or staff

  • Contribution to SOPs and report writing
  • Experience of contributing to cost improvement schemes (CIP)

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Demonstrate an understanding of current pharmacy and NHS issues
  • Experience of purchasing consumables and equipment for use in Pharmacy Aseptic Services
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Excellent verbal communication skills even in situations where there may be communication difficulties or barriers to understanding
  • Demonstrable understanding of how to manage conflict
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills and ability to negotiate and deal with complaints in the first instance or with emotionally distressing situations such as dispensing medicines for critically and terminally ill patients
  • Effectively provide advice to patients or other healthcare professionals regarding complex or sensitive medicines information
  • Proactively provide suggestions, ideas and solutions for service improvement
