Under the direction of the VP of Operations, the Manufacturing Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, and monitoring the daily functions and activities of Wood Stone’s fabrication, assembly, and logistics/shipping teams. This role includes monitoring objectives via daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual performance metrics – while facilitating the Wood Stone Operations Maturity Roadmap that will deliver long-term benefits. The Manufacturing Manager uses a metrics-driven cadence with a focus on coaching/leading with respect to drive high performance. The position manages multiple teams to accomplish these goals.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that the manufacturing team accomplishes cost, quality, schedule performance, and safety objectives. When misses occur, develop a credible recovery plan with the team.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain necessary controls to assure and manage Key Performance Indicators; report out performance daily and at other required frequencies.
  • Assist the VP of Operations in analyzing production processes and making recommendations on redesigning the product fulfillment process to improve material and information flow.
  • Determine specific performance requirements for the direct labor force and drive accountability for that performance.
  • Provide high-touch interface with external customer demand management personnel – production planning/scheduling, configuration and order management, engineering, service, and Sales – to improve workflow. Participate in the Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) process.
  • Maintain appropriate staffing levels: perform direct labor workforce planning and capacity planning over both short- and long-term horizons using appropriate tools.
  • Responsible for managing overtime and direct labor efficiency.
  • Responsible for development and management of the financial Manufacturing Direct Labor budget.
  • Assure performance evaluations are conducted with all employees both formally during the annual review period, and at periodic intervals throughout the year. Assure that employee personal development plans are initiated to serve both company and employee needs.
  • Delegate and follow-up as needed to maintain speed of execution and to keep the team prioritized on critical issues at hand. Conduct regular meetings with staff members as necessary to inform, review, and educate as necessary.
  • Facilitate, via the Hoshin-Kanri “catchball” process, strategic top-level Goals and Objectives. Maintain team accountability to Wood Stone policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Continuously address and resolve manufacturing constraints; strive to improve teamwork and morale.
  • Hire, motivate, train, and discipline employees as necessary to achieve performance goals. Provide direct leadership to the Fabrication, Assembly, and Logistics teams; select and provide leadership to the team of team leads that oversee direct and indirect labor.
  • Maintain the necessary communications and effective relationships with other Wood Stone team managers required to coordinate support of the manufacturing operations.
  • Promote the Wood Stone Operations Excellence and Continuous Improvement culture.

Required Skills:

  • High level of familiarity and technical competence in the following areas: CNC punching/forming/machining, sheet metal fabrication, welding/joining/finishing, casting, and electromechanical assembly.
  • Hands on knowledge and application of advanced manufacturing practices, including lean, 6-sigma, TOC.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and computer skills, especially MS Excel and ERP systems. Fundamental knowledge of MRP II, Shop Floor Control, scheduling, and related systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities and easily adapt to changing situations and priorities.
  • High level of experience in a complex, high mix/low volume (HMLV) or custom engineered products environment.

Desired Skills:

  • Highly organized, reliable, and self-motivated individual that can work independently as well as work effectively in a collaborative team environment; comfortable working both horizontally and vertically throughout the Wood Stone organization.
  • Decisive, assertive, and action-oriented.
  • Ability to handle a dynamic workload while prioritizing and backlogging daily responsibilities appropriately based on current and existing needs.
  • Comfortable being hands-on in the process when needed to support team members.
  • Experience working in a controlled Quality Management System (ISO 9001, AS9100) environment.

Experience & Education:

  • BS degree in business, industrial management, engineering or related field is highly desired. May substitute significant applicable experience and/or applicable industry certifications.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive manufacturing leadership experience, including leading people, obtaining results through others, and developing appropriate team member competencies over time.

Pay: $80,000.00 - $99,000.00 per year
