Woodberry Forest School, located in Madison, VA, is an exceptional private boarding school community for high school boys in grades nine through twelve. It is one of the top boarding schools in the United States and one of the only all-boys, all-boarding schools in the country. Woodberry's 1,200-acre campus is the largest for boarding schools in Virginia, and one of the largest private school campuses in the country.
MAJOR PURPOSE OF THIS JOB:
Responsible for preparing and providing breads and desserts to students and staff in a timely manner. Will assist in line serving responsibilities for buffet and seated meals in the evening.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Weighs flour and other ingredients to prepare dough.
· Bakes bread, rolls, muffins, and biscuits according to recipe.
· Adjusts oven temperatures to ensure proper baking.
· Mixes various ingredients to create fillings for cakes and pies (e.g. chocolate ganache, caramel sauce and fruits)
· Shapes dough to prepare different types of pastries, including croissants, cookies and sweet rolls.
· Tracks food supplies and place orders, as needed.
· Cleans kitchen equipment and tools after use. Assists on the serving line in the evening.
· Other duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Moderate physical activity. Requires general movement. Shift is 11:30 to 8/8:30pm with every other weekend off. Generous holiday time off and benefits.
EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
· At least 2 years of experience in baking and cooking areas preferred
· Good reading and math skills
· Familiarity with all professional kitchen equipment, including mixers and blenders
· Understanding of food safety practices
· Good physical condition
EDUCATION AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:
· High School Diploma or GED required.
