Job Description
The Police Support Services Coordinator is responsible for: the management and administration of the Body Worn Camera (BWC) system; the storage of data from body cameras; works with Records in accordance with the Colorado Open Records Act (CORA) and Colorado Criminal Justice Records Act (CCJRA) to fulfill requests; shall be responsible for the custody, release, auction, disposition, destruction and record keeping associated with case evidence or property in the possession of the Department; shall be responsible for all equipment and uniform inventory and distribution for the police department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assures safekeeping and proper storage and retention of digital media from various sources; Conducts periodic audits of property inventory as directed.
- Consistently adheres to chain of custody standards set by the department
- Creates case files of discoverable materials
- Duplicates digital media to include BWC, as needed
- Edits footage from various recording devices to redact protected information and images prior to public release.
- Extracts detailed evidence obtained from audio and video media sources.
- Testifies in court or other hearings to verify the integrity of evidentiary data collected or protocols followed for collection and redaction in order to authenticate such media.
- Assists in daily operations and is responsible for assisting with security and integrity of Evidence room
- Maintains custody of property and evidence on hand, provides for security and ensures safekeeping, and oversees final disposition of property.
- Ensures that departmental policies and procedures are adhered to in all aspects of the daily operation of the Evidence room.
- Responsible for verifying evidence reports against property and tracking system entries.
- Determines appropriate and lawful disposition of property. Releases property to police officers, lawful owners, court system, or other law enforcement agencies.
- Compiles and maintains accurate records of all property transfers, releases, and decisions made regarding same.
- Complete an inventory of all Police Department equipment and property.
- Issue equipment to officers and employees; order equipment and supplies.
- Ensure all equipment used by the department is in working order at all times.

Works under the direct supervision of the Support Services Manager
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Works with the civilian authority to enforce rules and policy equivalent to that of a sworn Sergeant.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Education and Experience - High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Prefer experience in fields related to law enforcement, public administration or an applicable educational experience.
- Two (2) years of administrative, property accountability, warehousing or law enforcement work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence that the applicant possesses the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
- Must be CCIC and NCIC certified within three months of employment
- Must obtain and maintain International Association for Property and Evidence (IAPE) certification during the first year of employment
- Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado Driver’s License.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Knowledge of the principles and practices of law enforcement records and equipment.
- Basic investigative, evidence collection, processing, and storage techniques.
- Laws, regulations, and rules regarding evidence handling.
- Demonstrated skill in preparing written reports, using computer and digital recording devices, manipulating data obtained from digital recording devices.
- Completing projects in a timely manner
- Operation of equipment necessary to perform the functions of the job.

Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and various pieces of office equipment.
Work is primarily performed indoors in a standard office environment, however, due to the nature of the job may involve exposure to wide ranges of chemicals, solvents and other solutions. Extreme confidentiality is required and must be able to handle multiple concurrent tasks, interruptions, and stress. Work requires the ability to communicate effectively orally with co-workers and the public.
