People and Culture Manager - Employee Relations
The People and Culture Manager - Employee Relations reports directly to the Director of People and Culture. This position will proactively oversee all employee relations activities, policies, processes, and procedures, and will demonstrate employee relations expertise, excellent judgment, interpersonal, problem-solving, and communication skills. This position will set the strategy for employee relations, support the team in handling workplace concerns and action plans, and provide intervention as necessary. This role will work extensively with Management to identify opportunities to address common employee relations issues proactively and preventatively. It will provide guidance and coaching to managers of all levels to address employee behavior and performance areas. The People and Culture Manager - Employee Relations will stay attuned to organizational and operational changes across the Company to identify potential employee relations risks and develop plans to address them proactively.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Designs, plans, and implements a company's employee relations programs, policies, and procedures.
- Conducting, overseeing, and/or otherwise assisting with employee relation issues to manage employee concerns and grievances and to identify and implement appropriate employee action and accountability practices.
- Identifying a fair and inclusive process appropriate for employee concerns or grievances including overseeing employee fact-finding and ensuring adherence to employee relations policies and practices.
- Staying attuned to organizational and operational changes across the company to identify potential employee relations risks and develop plans to address them proactively.
- Providing guidance and coaching to managers of all levels to address employee behavior and performance.
- Providing guidance and assisting with the development and delivery of appropriate performance feedback or action plans including corrective/disciplinary actions.
- Overseeing and maintaining accurate, confidential records regarding all reported matters and fact-finding documentation.
- Interpreting and applying understanding of personnel policies and practices, employment law, and other regulations to provide guidance or clarification for HR matters.
- Maintaining the highest level of integrity when managing employee relations issues and managing reported matters.
- Maintains good communication and positive relationships with employees to promote employee satisfaction.
- Utilizes exit interview feedback to improve employee experience within the organization and identify opportunities to improve retention.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training.
- Oversee the annual performance reviews.
- Administer the new hire orientation.
- Recommends and implements employee recognition programs.
- Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; and training and development.
- Manage employee relations.
- Manage EEO compliance.
- Manage ADA including reasonable accommodation.
- Conducts exit interviews.
- Submit pertinent HR articles to the WSM newsletter quarterly.
- Experience and knowledge of 403b retirement plan.
- Performs other duties as assigned to support the HR Department
Education, Experience, and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or 10 years of experience working in human resources employee relations as an individual contributor.
- Extensive knowledge of department processes.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and proactively analyze and resolve problems.
- Must be analytical, strategic, and diplomatic.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Thorough understanding of state and federal laws concerning labor relations.
- Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply the appropriate sections of applicable laws, guidelines, regulations, ordinances, and policies.
- Thorough understanding of dispute resolution.
- Understanding of compensation administration.
- Ability to remain tactful, calm, and persuasive in controversial and/or confrontational situations.
