Position Summary: The Wine Steward is responsible for providing exceptional customer service and expert guidance on the selection, pairing, and purchasing of wine & beer. This role includes maintaining an organized and attractive wine section, conducting tastings, and staying informed about wine trends and industry developments. The ideal candidate will have a deep passion for wine, strong sales skills, and the ability to educate customers.
Key Responsibilities:
Customer Service:
- Greet and assist customers with their wine selections, providing expert advice on different types of wines, food pairings, and wine storage.
- Answer customer queries and resolve any issues related to wine products.
Sales and Promotion:
- Recommend wines to meet customers' tastes and preferences, upsell premium products.
- Conduct promotional events to enhance customer experience and boost sales.
Develop and maintain customer relationships to drive repeat business.
Inventory Management:
- Maintain an organized and visually appealing wine section, including stocking shelves, making and arranging displays.
- Monitor inventory levels, assist with ordering and receiving new stock, and manage stock rotation to ensure product freshness.
- Keep track of customer inquiry data to identify trends and make informed stocking decisions.
Product Knowledge:
- Stay updated on wine industry trends, new products, and best practices through continuous learning and professional development.
- Educate store staff about wine products to ensure they can assist customers effectively.
Compliance and Safety:
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations related to the sale of alcoholic beverages.
- Adhere to store policies and procedures, including those related to safety and cleanliness.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in hospitality, culinary arts, or a related field is a plus.
- Extensive knowledge of wine, including varietals, regions, production methods, and food pairings.
- Previous experience in a similar role, such as a wine steward, sommelier, or wine sales associate, is preferred.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be of legal age to sell alcoholic beverages.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, and bend for extended periods.
- Capability to lift and carry up to [weight] pounds.
- Handling of wine bottles and cases regularly.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour
