Job Summary:
Level of Responsibility:
- Responsible for the assessment, planning, and design of Telecommunication maintenance and appropriate capital projects which construct or reconfigure telecommunication facilities including voice, LAN, WAN, wireless, Internet, video, fiber, etc. services and utility specific services such as SCADA, telemetry, and relaying. Reviews and assesses user needs, conducts feasibility studies, develops requests for proposal, evaluates vendor products and makes recommendations on selection, issues estimates, issues construction prints, conducts final inspection, etc. Responsible for the maintenance of telecommunications records.
- Responsibilities are varied and complex. May work outside area of assigned duties. Expert in own area of responsibility.
- Works independently. Resolves complex problems within area of responsibility. Identifies opportunities and innovative solutions.
- Recommends changes in procedures. Reviews progress and evaluates results. Authority to make decisions related to job responsibilities.
Essential Functions:
- Perform engineering design of appropriate capitalized projects and maintenance projects.
- Maintain contact with Federal agencies to assure company compliance with Federal regulations.
- Acts as a resource for members with less experience, may direct the technical complexities of work.
- Evaluate vendors’ proposals including specifications and drawings for equipment associated with telecommunications projects.
- Create or modify construction standards and guides for use by technicians, engineers and construction personnel in the field to design and build/rebuild telecommunication facilities.
- Makes recommendations for design standardization program.
- Assures that all features of a new or modified telecommunications system conform to the latest national and local codes, rules and regulations, including FCC licensing.
- All other duties as assigned
Working Conditions:
- Occasional job site visits.
- Occasional overnight travel.
- Some work outside of the normal work day/week required.
- Requires carrying and responding to a cell phone or pager.
Special Safety Requirements:
- All positions in which driving is an essential function of the job, regardless if the job code is marked safety sensitive or not,
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Exceptional communication skills (oral, written, and presentation)
- Exceptional problem solving skills
- Ability to manage large project responsibilities and decision making in such areas as technical vendor design, vendor selection, product evaluation, feasibility studies, network optimizations, etc.
- Ability to lead and direct the work of others.
- Excellent project leadership skills.
- Self motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision
- In depth knowledge and experience in multiple technologies such as PBX, radio, data networks, fiber, etc.
- Ability to work without supervision and make independent decisions.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks with shifting priorities
- Experience with engineering analysis tools such as RF propagation tools, erlaing traffic analysis software.
- Strong computer skills with knowledge in Microsoft applications and related drafting programs (AutoCAD)
- Team Player
Education/Work Experience:
- Associate's Degree and 6 years directly related experience.
