What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Chief of Projects position at Worley?
POSITION SUMMARY
The Assistant Chief of Projects (ACP) will utilize their expertise in operations and maintenance to provide technical and administrative input and support to large capital projects related to customer’s Central Utility Plant.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- The ACP will be the primary point of contact for responding to technical inquiries from any of the project teams which require a response from the CAM O&M team
- The ACP will participate in all project team meetings for active Cogen-related projects
- The ACP will assist with shutdown planning, respond to technical inquiries regarding existing systems and will communicate with key stakeholders to ensure they are adequately briefed on changes.
- The ACP will aim to bill 75% of hours to projects and the other 25% of time will be used to support the Central Utility Plant O&M needs.
- The ACP will provide input to project stakeholders regarding design objectives, project execution, and post-construction considerations to support maximum reliability of utility supply and lowest long-term cost of ownership.
- The ACP will support technical inquiries for modernizing and upgrading of Cogen systems and equipment by identifying and researching commercially available options and presenting them for customer review in a summarized Business Opportunity Plan.
- The ACP will work with the on-site O&M team members to identify needed capital improvements at the Cogen and will document and summarize them in a formal letter of recommendation.
- When workload permits, the ACP will support small capital improvement projects and expense projects in coordination with the on-site Special Project Coordinator.
- The ACP will coordinate and assist with training on-site O&M personnel on project related changes.
- The ACP will implement the CAM change management review process for all project work under their purview.
- The ACP will provide periodic status reports to the Cogen Plant Manager and to the customer’s management summarizing recent activity and individual project status, issues, and action items.
- The ACP will normally work remotely but will travel to the UCLA campus for in-person meetings, job walks, etc. as-needed. 2 site visits per month is the expectation but may be needed during certain project stages.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
Education -Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
Experience – Minimum 5 years of experience in Operation & Maintenance of Combined Heat and Power and Central Chilling Systems.
Excellent oral and written communication skills. Able to perform basic accounting level mathematical level calculations consistently and accurately. Demonstrated accurate typing/word processing abilities.
Must be organized, detail-oriented and a self-starter.
Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Primary Incumbent will be required to work in proximity to a manufacturing environment where hazardous material and /or toxic fumes could potentially be present. Additionally, incumbent will be occasionally exposed to areas of high heat, loud noise, steam, combustible gases, rotating machinery, and other conditions normally encountered in an operating utility plant.
