Job Description:
The Workface Planner is responsible for the creation and development of the Installation Work Packages (IWP) that have a detailed scope of work, confirmed material availability, constraints such as scaffold, equipment, tools, permits, or other needs identified, with planned value, schedule dates and applicable cost codes listed. This position is also responsible for monitoring and controlling the IWP and ensuring that all constraints are removed, and the necessary resources are available prior to the releasing of the IWP.
Work Activities:
- Uses construction expertise to develop IWP
- Develop IWP from a template
- Review IWP for completeness and accuracy
- Determine IWP required activities, resources, special conditions, quality control, and risk
- Determine and coordinate constraint requirements and liaise with constraint coordinators
- Coordinate IWP execution with field supervision
- Identify specific risks associated with executing planned activities
- Build IWPs in line with the project schedule
- Ensures IWP are issued on time and Schedulers, General Foremen and Superintendents are executing the plan in sequence
- Supply a copy of each IWP complete with bill of materials, required date and coordinates with the material management group 4 weeks prior to the scheduled IWP release date
- Develops, modifies and reviews IWP templates for completeness and accuracy
- Assigns responsibility for material, construction equipment, scaffold, and specialty tool
coordination to dedicated personnel
- Participate in weekly cross discipline coordination meetings
- Identify permit requirements for each IWP
- Evaluate plans with the Foremen and General Foremen
- Develop and maintain a backlog of executable IWPs
- Facilitate the Safety and QC departments’ interaction with every plan before it is released
- Participate in weekly scaffold and equipment coordination meetings
- Record progress from the Foremen into the IWPs
- Develop hydro‐test packages with field execution
- Produce reports on individual system percentage completion as required
- Assist Turnover Coordinator to build turnover packages
- Generate and track Request for Information (RFI) based upon the request of the Foremen
- Maintain a log of IWP plan development, execution, and percentage complete
- Maintains accurate resource loading for internal resources
- Monitors and control the IWP and advises appropriate parties
- Ensures Company workface planning guidelines are adhered to.
- Conduct post‐mortem on IWP
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Minimum five (5) years construction project experience as a journeyman, tradesperson, or
other construction project specialist is preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of Workface Planning experience preferred; Foreman or General Foreman experience is
considered an asset
- Ability to read schedules and scheduling reports; and familiarity with Primavera P6
- Must possess strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
- Exceptional organizational and multi‐tasking skills that are complimented by effective interpersonal, oral and written communication
- Ability to work within a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines
- A team player who is self‐motivated and has strong attention to detail
- Fluent in English with above average writing skills
