This Opportunity
WSP is currently initiating a search for an AutoCAD Draftsperson for our US Mine Waste Civil Design and Drafting Team. The ideal candidate will be capable of editing and developing engineering drawing sets in coordination with engineers, drafters, and designers.
Your Impact
- Compile and analyze data from the surveys, structural concepts, blueprints, schematics, spoken or written specifications, technical drawings, rough sketches, diagrams, and other matrices to support drafting and design activities for single, multi-phase, or multi-site project work.
- Modify and develop drawing packages (plans, profiles, sections and details, etc.) associated with civil earthworks, mine infrastructure (tailings, heap leach pad, waste rock stockpile design), reclamation, stormwater and surface-water controls, groundwater science, landfill design and remediation, and civil design for power sector and water treatment facilities, as directed by the Team Leader, team members, and/or project engineer.
- Integrate Civil 3d components representing various engineering features such as graded terrain, waterways, wetlands, roads, railroads, etc.
- Assist in overseeing drafting support activities for projects of a moderate scope and complexity within a district.
- Monitor drafting and design plans for quality control; documenting work progress and issues arising throughout the scope of the project.
- Prepare multiple versions of designs for review by engineer.
- Ensure the specification of dimensions, materials, and procedures for assigned projects, ensuring compliance with contract requirements.
- Work collaboratively with the engineer-in-charge and other technical professionals on assigned project phases, segments, checks, and tasks.
- Complete training on assigned tasks.
- Exhibit basic knowledge of current drafting and design support practices.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma.
- Minimum of 3 year of relevant post education experience in discipline with prior drafting and design support experience.
- Practiced skills utilizing Autodesk AutoCAD 2022 and Civil 3D 2022 or newer. An emphasis on using modern and efficient tools and workflows within AutoCAD and Civil 3D is a priority (e.g., external references, annotative object, sheet sets, surfaces, alignments, profiles, cogo points, data shortcuts, etc.).
- Practiced skills associated with importing\exporting data to and from other software packages like ArcGIS, Bentley Microstation.
- Practiced and demonstrated knowledge of drafting support principles, practices, process, methods, and techniques.
- Developing knowledge of compliance practices and record-keeping requirements.
- Practiced skills in core technical areas of related software applications.
- Practiced competency with ability to make technical computations and calculations involving the application of geometry and mathematical concepts, understanding plans and specifications, and making factual comparisons to the appropriate.
- Analytical mindset with an ability to exercise sound judgement in evaluating situations and making decisions.
- Capable interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a technical and non-technical audience.
- Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, and comply with company policies.

- Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, spreadsheets, and tools.

- Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate’s Degree in closely related discipline is preferred.
- Essential professional licensure/certification.
