This Opportunity
WSP Earth & Environment is currently seeking a Chemist or Scientist to perform, under the direction of a project manager, environmental field investigations, report writing, and other project related tasks associated with site investigation activities at a dynamic and evolving project site located in the Grafton County/Lebanon, New Hampshire area and Windsor/Orange County, Vermont area. This is a project-site work arrangement, with limited travel to a home office located in Portland, Maine.
This position will require residence within the Grafton County/Lebanon, NH area or Windsor/Orange County, VT area, or commutable distance from Hanover, NH.
Your Impact
- Conduct field investigation work under the direction of a senior chemist or scientist to investigate and monitor the nature and extent of soil vapor and indoor air contamination. Field work will include collection and analysis of soil vapor and indoor air using an Inficon Hapsite ER portable gas chromatograph/mass spectrometer (GC/MS)
- Maintain the onsite quality control (QC) analytical program, report analytical results on a daily basis, maintain an analytical results database, and perform general maintenance tasks of the analytical instrument
- Manage and maintain the site field office including updating and advising on supply inventory
- Interface and communicate with site personnel on a daily basis
- Coordinate with Project Chemist or Scientist on a daily basis
- Conduct other field sampling on an as needed basis

Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Geology or one of the physical or natural sciences
- 0-1 year of experience working in an analytical testing laboratory, environmental consulting firm or similar
- Ability to move and lift equipment that may weigh 40 lbs. on a daily basis
- Knowledge of the principles and standards of scientific study, field investigation and sampling, experimentation, research, and documentation
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to work effectively with team members as well as independently
- Strong interpersonal and writing skills
- Ability to maintain a clean work environment
- Ability to travel within New England and New York on a limited basis
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with operation and use of gas chromatographs and/or gas chromatography/mass spectrometers (GC/MS)
- Experience with the collection and analysis of soil vapor and ambient air samples as applied to site investigations
- Previous field experience working on hazardous waste site investigations
- OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certified
