This Opportunity
WSP is seeking a highly motivated Construction Inspector to join a dynamic and collaborative team. The preferred location for this position is in either Kansas City, MO or Wichita, Kansas office.
The ideal candidate will take part in providing local technical and inspection support to the Resident Engineer on projects to ensure construction compliance with plans, specifications, contract documents, and codified requirements. Responsibilities involve performing field inspections on various assigned construction projects of moderate scale and/or complexity, including examining and evaluating the placement of concrete, installation of underground pipelines, earthwork and roadway paving, buildings, structures, systems, building materials, mechanical and electrical installations, foundations, and environment.
In this role, you will generate accurate and concise documentation regarding assigned aspects of the project. Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, functionality, and sustainability.
Your Impact
- Assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site, surveys, structural plans, blueprints, schematics, data, technical drawings, flow diagrams, material sampling, computer-generated reports, and other matrices for field inspection activities.
- Provide routine technical assistance that accounts for the proper inspection, construction, and functioning of buildings, highways, roads, bridges, structures, infrastructure, equipment, and/or mechanical systems according to design standard specifications.
- Attend pre-construction meetings and assist with answering questions from contractors and other attendees.
- Assist with calculating payments due to contractors for work completed.
- Assist with ensuring adequate levels of equipment and materials are assigned to projects, ensuring that material tests are performed, and materials meet required standards.
- Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation and specifications related to inspection findings using electronic systems, written/oral feedback, photographs, drawings, diagrams, illustrations, spreadsheets, and reports.
- Comply with client policies and procedures for inspection work under contract.
- Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures which include but are not limited to, location data, statistical documentation, studies and surveys, and construction.
- Complete training on assigned tasks.
- Exhibit basic knowledge of current field inspection practices.
- Work collaboratively with other professionals, scientists, engineers, inspectors, project control, and technicians on assigned inspection phases, checks, and tasks.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma
- Valid state driver’s license.
- Familiar with construction inspection principles, field inspection practices, process, methods and techniques.
- Familiar with relevant construction codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
- Sound interpersonal/communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a technical and non-technical audience.
- Sound self-leadership with attention to detail, accuracy, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
- Analytical mindset to exercise sound judgement in evaluating situations and making decisions.
- Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, spreadsheets, and tools.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
- Has the ability to obtain certified training for transportation construction inspection upon hire.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree in closely related discipline is preferred.
- Inspection Certifications Specific to Kansas, Nebraska, or Missouri DOT.
- Experience with MicroStation, GeoPAK SS10, Open Roads Designer ,AutoCAD Civil3D
- Experience with project management software such as CMS or AASHTOWare
- Experience in transportation design and plan reviews
