Your Impact
- Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide assistance to New York State Office of General Services (OGS) Project Manager as directe
- Prepare independent estimates and analyze 3rd party estimates.
- Provides support in price negotiations. Obtains quotes for materials and services.
- Performs related costs estimating and budgeting functions. Performs conceptual estimating by establishing a project’s cost prior to development of graphical representation of a facility.
- Performs cost estimates by breaking down the items of work on an orderly and logical basis, determining the cost of each item from experience and summarizing the total. Uses estimating software to develop estimates with guidance from lead/senior estimators. Prepares detailed breakdown of components and elements of estimates. Revised estimates and reports to management accordingly.
- Analyzes specifications, drawings, sketches and sample layouts to calculate total construction cost using labor, material, and equipment pricing schedules in concert with historical data.
- Assists project management with preparation of schedules for estimate preparation, review, and publication. Reviews takeoffs with project management and checks for mathematical and technical accuracy. • Assigns material costs and staffing costs to the takeoffs.
- Verifys the actual hourly rates paid to the employees as well as overhead expenses incurred and presented in accordance with FAR guidelines.
- Reviews contractual documents and contract modifications to determine scope of work, changes to scope, and cost estimates of scope changes.
- Prepares and summarizes task and subtask estimates, including rate and unit cost determination and performing mathematical calculations by applying standard factors.
- Assists in preparation of independent cost estimates (ICE) for submitted change order proposals.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Potential travel occasionally for meetings/training may be required, vehicle will be necessary with valid driver’s license
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management or Business.
- 3 - 5 years of related experience in Cost Estimating.
- Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
- Proficiency necessary in Microsoft software including Word/Excel/Outlook.
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Valid driver’s license - Occasional travel within the region may be required.
- Must be available to work alternate work hours on as needed basis.
- Proven ability to adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- This hire will be contingent upon client selection and successful background check.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- This role is subject to a client mandated drug/alcohol testing policy. As such, employee may be subject to random drug/alcohol tests. A copy of the client mandated drug/alcohol testing policy will be provided during employee onboarding and is available upon applicant request.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency in Cost Works/Equipment Watch
- OSHA 30 Hour certified required
- Proficient in the use of Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.)
Compensation and Benefits:

Expected Salary: $68,800 - $114,300
WSP USA is providing the compensation range and general description of other compensation and benefits that the company in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this position based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and geographic location. Salary : $68,800 - $114,300
