Job Summary:
We are seeking an entrepreneurial, dedicated, and motivated Senior Engineering Manager to join our Engineering Automation Solutions & Technical Delivery team. With a highly technical and visionary mindset, this role will drive our custom industrial automation projects and oversee the R&D and Manufacturing teams, serving as a leader in cutting-edge automation solutions. The ideal candidate will have proven experience and strong capabilities in the technical management and delivery of mechanical, electrical, process control and software projects in the life sciences and/or supply chain industries. The ideal candidate will also have a passion for delivering high-quality, innovative products and solutions that meet the needs of our clients. In addition, in this role, you will lead a team of engineers and work collaboratively with other departments to design, develop, and deliver complex projects on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards as part of an overall Solution Development/ Delivery Lifecycle (SDLC) approach.
Please note, the location of role is Newtown, PA and is not a remote position.
Requirements
Responsibilities and Duties:
Projects will be primarily in the biotech, pharmaceutical, cosmetics / consumer products, and logistics industries, so previous experience of delivering projects in regulated environments is essential. The Senior Engineering Manager will be responsible for overall project coordination, communications, and oversight of day-to-day project delivery activities.
• As a Senior Engineering Manager you will accountable for all technical deliverables and oversight of design, development, build and testing of custom mechanical, electrical, and software systems for customer projects (preferably within the life sciences/regulated industry)
• Manage and oversee full lifecycle of custom automation projects, ensuring successful design, development, and delivery on time and within budget
• Oversee and lead a team of multi-disciplined engineers, providing technical guidance, mentorship and career development opportunities.
• Collaborate with and manage cross-functional engineering teams to integrate disparate pieces of industrial automation equipment, including Robotics, Machine Vision, PLC control systems, material handling systems, and more.
• Act as the sole escalation point for problem resolution in design or solutions, leveraging deep technical expertise.
• Ensure all projects are being delivered on-time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, acting as the primary point of contact for all engineering-related matters
• Continuously evaluate and improve engineering processes and procedures to increase efficiency and reduce costs
• Stay up-to-date with the latest trends, technologies, and best practices in industrial automation within the industries we support, and apply this knowledge to continually drive innovation within the team.
• Collaborate with cross-functional operations teams including product management, sales, and operations to understand customer needs, develop project specifications, and manage project timelines and budgets
• Participate and provide support to sales/commercial manager for preliminary “pre sales” solution details including detailed engineering estimates including hardware / software and services estimates to meet customer requirements for prospective opportunities.
• Provide support and guidance translating strategic business unit opportunities and emerging technology solutions into tangible executable plans to promote to customers and internal sales/bd teams;
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (preferably at Masters level)
• Minimum 10 years of experience in custom industrial automation solution design and development inclusive of mechanical, electrical, controls, software development, and project management within the life sciences industry
• Minimum 3 years of experience in a management or leadership role
• Deep technical understanding and demonstrated experience in custom mechanical and electrical design, PLC software/controls development, robotics and machine vision.
• Experience with FDA regulations and ISO standards
• Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve complex
• Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
• Strong leadership skills with experience in managing and mentoring technical teams.
