Position Overview
The Fleet Mechanic performs fleet vehicle maintenance, inspections, and repairs to ensure vehicles are safe and operating optimally. This position will be responsible to diagnose and repair a variety of fleet machines and vehicles including pumps, generators, compactors, trucks, bucket trucks, semis, trailers, tanks, hydraulics, etc. The successful candidate will possess a strong customer service orientation. This position reports to the fleet manager.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform vehicle maintenance and repairs to ensure vehicles are safe
- Diagnose and repair small engines and machines including pumps, generators, and compactors
- Diagnose and perform accurately all phases of vehicle and equipment repair including the repair of brakes, engine tune-ups, suspensions, drive trains, transmission clutches, and other repairs
- Remove and replace engines, transmission, and differential assemblies
- Ensure work orders are completed properly and accurately
- Maintain records of all maintenance work completed including parts and supplies used
- Perform preventative maintenance (PMs), safety inspections, and annual maintenance inspections
- Notify the supervisor of potentially dangerous equipment and corrective action is taken
- Evaluate completed work prior to release and seek approval where required
- Assist with road calls and emergency services as necessary
- Move vehicles safely between job and work area
- Repair/Replace brake system components on a variety of vehicles and equipment
- Perform other duties or responsibilities as requested or assigned
Requirements
- Valid driver's license required; Class A CDL preferred or ability to obtain a Class A CDL within 6 months of hire
- 3-5 years of automotive or diesel repair employment experience or combination of education & experience
- Intermediate diagnostics skills and mechanical knowledge are required
- Shop management experience preferred
- Must have appropriate mechanic's toolset
- ASE Certification experience is strongly preferred
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Ability to read schematics to diagnose electrical and hydraulic systems
- Ability to communicate and provide instructions effectively
- Ability to work assigned shifts
- Ability to pass a drug test
- Regional travel required
- Ability to maintain a strong customer service mentality
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- May experience long hours of standing and moving
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
