What are the responsibilities and job description for the Line Chef position at Yacht Club of Sea Isle City?

We are looking for a highly motivated Line Chef to join our exceptional kitchen staff. The YCSIC is a private club that offers its members both casual pub dining on our Crow’s Nest, and upscale dining in our main dining room. We also hold numerous weddings and banquets throughout the year. The Line Chef will assist the Executive Chef and Sous Chef with their daily tasks, as well as help executive dinner/banquet service. We are looking for a minimum two-year line experience in a high-volume kitchen. Previous work references and reliable transportation required.

Salary: $17-$20 per hour based on experience

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Present food items using proper plating and presenting techniques.
  • Coordinate completion of food items with the expo.
  • Rotate through the various kitchen stations. App Station, Prep Station, Sauté Station, Pantry/Cold Station, Grill Station, and Utility Station.
  • Take proper care of ranges, ovens, broilers, fryers, utensils, other equipment, and kitchen workspaces.
  • Foster teamwork in a fast-paced and demanding environment.
  • Assist with prep of food items as necessary or directed.
  • Adhere to all applicable food safety federal, state, and local law.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess the following Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Technical Skills: We prefer at least 1 year of culinary experience working with various kitchen equipment, food items, and a fast-paced kitchen environment.
  • Customer Service and Professionalism: Proven experience serving as a role model and setting the standard for all staff to maintain high-quality and consistent customer service.
  • Problem Solving, Quality Control, and Priority Assessment: Must evaluate current practices and processes; immediately recognize potential areas of conflict; and suggest ways to improve current business methods and services provided.
  • Communication: Commitment to details both verbally and non-verbally and ability to encourage cooperative and consistent levels of communication with the back of house staff, front of house staff and management. Must understand instructions, read written company information and communicate with little or no additional direction.
  • Interpersonal Relationships: Ability to adapt to different personalities of guests, staff and outside vendors without losing focus. Must possess high professional ethics and avoid extreme familiarity or conflicts with others.
  • Conflict Management: Capacity to recognize problems when they arise and be able to resolve them appropriately by using good judgement, tact, and initiative according to company policy and procedure. Requires unbiased communication skills to handle all types of conflicts that will occur at all levels of supervision and the ability to negotiate effectively.
  • Perform General Physical Activities: Ability to perform physical activities in a variety of environmental conditions that require moderate to maximum strength including climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, handling materials.
  • Flexibility: Must be available to work overtime when needed, assist with the workload of others, and perform other duties as assigned.

Pay: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour

Experience:

  • Culinary experience: 2 years (Preferred)
  • Cooking: 2 years (Preferred)
