Job Summary:
We are looking for a responsible custodian to maintain and protect our facilities. The external and internal appearance of a building reflects on the occupants. It is important for a custodian, or janitor, to be careful and thorough in working, cleaning and tidying the premises.
The ideal candidate will be experienced in a custodian role focused on building upkeep. They will have great physical endurance to cover a large space. A keen eye for detail and diligence are also imperative in custodial maintenance jobs.
Custodian's duties and responsibilities:
A Custodian is in charge of keeping the workplace clean, organized and disinfected. They usually have the following responsibilities:
- Clean the interior of buildings including floors, windows and walls.
- Disinfect commonly used items like desks, door handles, office tools and phones.
- Maintain cleaning inventory notifying supervisor when reordering is needed.
- Maintain outdoor designated areas.
- Remove debris from designated areas.
- Replace air filters and maintain HVAC systems.
- Empty trash and recycling bins.
- Stock and maintain supply rooms.
- Vacuum, sweep and mop floors.
- Clean and maintain restrooms.
- Washing and clean windows and mirrors.
- Notify supervisors of unsafe conditions.
- Dust furniture and fixtures.
Custodian's skills and qualifications:
Custodians typically have certain prerequisite skills or qualifications that will assist them in their role, which include:
- Good communication skills
- Knowledge of various cleaning products and when to use them
- Ability to clean and disinfect various surfaces
- Ability to lift and move at least 50 pounds
- Good organization skills
- Knowledge of safety guidelines when working with chemical cleaners
- Excellent time-management skills
