Salary Range: $55,345-$60,000
Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Camp Director is responsible for the day to day overall supervision, leadership, and delivery of the day and overnight camp programs. The Camp Director hires and supervises the seasonal camp staff to ensure quality in all aspects of camp, including but not limited to waterfront, equestrian, wilderness, and support operations. The position assists in the creation of all staffing budgets and provides marketing/recruitment support as necessary. The position is responsible for ensuring that the mission, purpose, image and core values of the YMCA of Greater Rochester is conveyed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Overall responsibility for all day and overnight camp programming and services.
· Recruit, hire, train, supervise and evaluate all staff and volunteers relative to program responsibilities.
· Lead efforts in spring set up and winter shut down of program areas, ensuring all areas are shut down in manner that ensures supplies are well maintained. Maintain inventory and future lists to ensure programs are ready for spring.
· Ensure all program areas are ready for incoming campers, rental groups, and programs.
· Collaborate with Director of Administration in utilizing camp databases for superior customer service and as camper and staff marketing tool.
· Responsible for facilitating department revenue growth and overall enhancement and increase of programs and services.
· Assist Executive Director with department budget development and management to ensure a strong fiscal position and appropriate resource allocation.
· Collaborates with Camp Ranger to ensure facility is safe and seasonal staff understand facility priorities. Assures compliance with state and local regulations and program standards are met and safety procedures are followed.
· Ensure all program operations are consistent with Association, DOH, and/or ACA procedures, including maintenance, emergency, accident, purchasing, personnel, and accounting systems.
· Implement programs that identify safety, quality, and excellent customer service as top priorities.
· Assist Executive Director with year-round marketing and recruitment efforts for camp as necessary.
· Assist with the branch Annual Support Campaign by serving in a designated role.
· Attend all required training and meetings. Support total Association events as designated.
· Serve as a member of the total staff team in the responsibility for the administration, promotion and operation of all Gorham programs and facilities. Shares responsibility as Director-on-Duty as assigned.
· Participate accordingly in assigned projects, including; staff trainings and meetings, work groups and special events.
· All other duties as assigned.
Requirements
· Must be at least 21 years of age and possess a high school diploma or GED. A Bachelor’s degree in recreation, education or related field is preferred.
· Must have at least 2 years’ experience as a supervisor in camping.
· Knowledge of various resources for programming ideas and the skills to utilize that information in directing daily activities.
· Working knowledge of residential camping programming. Experience in backcountry and backpacking skills preferred.
· Embodies and understands that it takes a team to succeed and that all leadership members are responsible for the overall operation and success of the camp in all departments, no matter their title.
· Must be self-motivated, hands on team leader with strong communications, networking and collaboration skills.
· High level of attention to detail and quality of service and facilities. Demonstrated commitment to high standards of member service and programming.
· Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills with the ability to manage several projects at once and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
· Polished, professional demeanor with excellent written and spoken communication skills.
· Demonstrated success in driving revenue and managing expenses.
· Experience in fundraising and individual gift solicitation and cultivation
· Must have current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
· Must be willing to reside at camp year round.
· Must be willing to travel from camp in off season for recruitment efforts and as needed for business.
· Must be able to sit and stand for extended duration of shift.
· Must be able to bend and stoop frequently.
· Must be able to lift up to forty pounds.
· Ability to work in all elements (i.e. outside in all weather).
· Ability to move around camp property.
· Ability to supervise children by sight and sound at all times.
· Ability to move quickly to react to safety issues in the setting (i.e. aggressive behavior).
