Aquatics Director

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Aquatics Director, under the direction of the Executive Director, intentionally fosters a cause-centered culture that is welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing, and determined while also managing high-quality, member-focused aquatics programs.

Constructed in collaboration with the County of Orangeburg in 2010, the Y includes a natatorium, fitness center, gymnasium, exercise studios, two seasonal waterparks (Orangeburg, SC & Santee, SC), and many great programs. The branch has 1400 membership units, a $1.2M operating budget, and a $62K annual campaign.

1. Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives. Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.

2. Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.

3. Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.

4. Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pools. Secures and schedules pool facilities. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.

5. Oversee operations of the seasonal waterparks, including both Orangeburg and Santee.

6. Conducts lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid and CPR trainings.

7. Creates and schedules swim classes, water fitness classes, and other aquatic activities.

8. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.

9. Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives.

10. Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.

11. Models relationship-building skills and active listening in all interactions. Responds to

all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.

12. Assists with Committee meetings.

13. Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation

in program.

14. Remains current in required and voluntary certifications and trainings.

15. Periodically serves as the manager on duty in the evenings or weekends.

16. Other duties as assigned.
