What You Will Be Doing:
- Perform high-volume phlebotomy.
- Perform quality assurance on lab tests
- Management and processing of specimens, preparing samples for transport to an off-site lab.
- Ensure all tests are properly performed and documented per the clinic guidelines for point of care testing.
- Organize and store samples in accordance with all safety and other requirements of personnel and integrity of samples.
- Maintain Quality Controls and ensure Quality Assurance with all testing supply and equipment. Keep work stations, supply and equipment clean and organized. Maintain daily records and logs.
- Record results into computers or data bases for use of Clinical Staff.
- Serve as an HIV test counselor. Provide HIV education and exposure window periods.
- Clinical Research: Maintains regulatory compliance through proper documentation and implementation of research specimen testing, collection, processing, and shipping.
- Communication Skills: Demonstrates effective written and verbal communication skills
- Emotional Quotient: Ability to manage difficult or highly sensitive conversations. Ability to identify and acknowledge emotions and the way they affect behavior and general attitude.
- Knowledge: Possesses technical knowledge required to do the job
- Judgment: Exhibits sound and accurate judgment; can clearly explain reasoning for decisions; includes appropriate people in decision-making process; demonstrates persistence and overcomes obstacles

- Computer Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Teams
- Professional Expectations: Demonstrated ability to fulfill the Foundation’s professional expectations of accountability, active collaboration, commitment, communication, diversity and professionalism.
- Technical Skills: Ability to use complex instruments and machines. Knowledge of computers and database is necessary to record information on the subject and the material tested or sampled. Knowledge of eClinical Works or other medical records systems.
- Skill in operating equipment such as a personal computer, copy machine and telephone system.
- Ability to perform routine bending, stooping, twisting, and reaching. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- Good hand and eye coordination for collecting and preparing specimens for analysis and grasping equipment.
- Make fast repeated movements with hands, fingers and legs. This is a 90% standing position in a laboratory setting with frequent reaching, bending, stretching and twisting.
- The position may have exposure to blood borne pathogens and other infectious agents.
- High School Diploma or GED
- Possession of California State Certified Phlebotomy Technician I or II, Certified Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) Certificate, or other degree that allows for performing venipunctures in the state of California. Employee must maintain an active phlebotomy certification with the California Laboratory Field Service,
- Current Health Care Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Current California Certification as an HIV Counselor required or must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
- Experience working as a Volunteer at a Community Based Organization is preferred.
- Training in Good Clinical Practices, research ethics, IATA shipments, HIPAA Privacy and Security, Rapid Regulatory Compliance preferred.
- Minimum one-year experience in outpatient sexual health clinic preferred.
- Minimum one-year experience in clinical research preferred.
- Bilingual English and Spanish, Russian, Cantonese, or ASL highly regarded
