Job Title: Senior Research Associate, Translational Research, Oncology
Location: San Diego, California
Type: Full-Time, 100% Onsite
Pay Rate: $39 - $50/hour
Prerequisites:
Summary/Scope: We are seeking a Senior Research Associate / Senior Associate Scientist to join our Translational Development team in the Oncogenesis Thematic Research Center (TRC) located in San Diego, California. The successful candidate should have a strong background in molecular cell biology, immunology, and oncology, along with expertise in cell-based assay development and biomarker discovery. The role involves addressing questions related to drug scheduling, supporting patient selection hypotheses, and developing clinical assays primarily through in vitro and ex vivo methods. The responsibilities include experiment design, execution, data analysis, and report generation for well-defined projects. The position also involves handling and treating human tissues, including whole blood, PBMC, bone marrow aspirates, tumor cell lines, and primary tumors. Strong communication, writing, record-keeping, and presentation skills are essential. The ideal candidate will have a proven scientific track record and experience working in a multi-disciplinary team environment.

Responsibilities:
- Independently execute defined experiments, perform data analysis, and ensure data quality control.
- Design and conduct relevant molecular and cell-based assays to support mechanism of action (MOA) and translational research.
- Analyze and present data in an organized and timely manner.
- Thoughtfully review data and help plan next steps.
- Work at the bench to design and execute established and novel molecular and cell-based assays for translational research.
- Perform cell biology and molecular biology techniques, including primary and tumor cell culture, lentiviral transductions, RNA and protein preparation, qRT-PCR, western blotting, and ELISA. Some training may be provided.
- Gain hands-on experience with CRISPR, siRNA, and shRNA (training provided).
- Handle and process patient-derived tissues and blood samples (as needed).
- Collaborate effectively and build positive and productive relationships with colleagues.
- Participate in the maintenance of routine laboratory instrumentation and supplies.
- Adhere to laboratory safety policies and practices.
- Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline with at least 3 years of work experience.
- Proficiency in molecular and cellular technologies, including sterile cell culture, cell-based assays (CTG, apoptosis), and molecular biology techniques (Protein, DNA, and RNA isolations, Western blot, ELISA, qRT-PCR).
- Proficiency in multi-color flow cytometry techniques and analysis.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in a multi-disciplinary environment.
- Experience with high-throughput drug screening is a plus.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, GraphPad Prism, and FlowJo.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changes with a positive attitude.
