Job Description Summary
The purpose of this position is to help maintain proper care of grounds, livestock and agricultural fields. This position opens and closes the site as needed.

JOB DUTIES

ESSENTIAL TASKS:
The tasks listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

Lock and unlock site buildings.

Feed and tend to livestock.

Mow and weed eat site lawns.

Use, operate and maintain modern agricultural machinery and vehicles.

Supply firewood from onsite resources.

Maintains and repair of site fencing as needed.

Provides assistance to other areas of operations as needed.

Maintains non-historic structures.

Work some special events as needed.

Planting and harvesting of crops.

Drives County vehicle to haul equipment on an 800-acre site to support staff, farm maintenance, and event set-up.

Uses vehicle to transport livestock.

Transporting self from operations area to various parts of the site using public road. - Ability to quickly respond to facilities needs at various parts of a large site. (Requires weekend work and will often be the only member of the facilities team on site.)

Picking up equipment off site - including from other CHM venues

OTHER DUTIES:
Coordinates with farm and property manager in creating work plans for site maintenance.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Completion of high school/GED. Requires 4-5 years related experience and/or training is preferred. Related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:
Valid state driver"s license is required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of understanding operation and safe practices of lawn care equipment/agricultural equipment/pesticides and herbicides. Ability to read analyze and interpret general directions and instructions for care and feeding of animals. Skills in how to use the proper tools and materials to complete a task. Ability to understand and recognize possible issues concerning animal health and/or welfare and relating these concerns to others. Necessary skills in treating and acting upon certain problems concerning animal health. Use of good judgment in considering visitors safety and proximity in relation to farming activities and good land management practices.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
CLERICAL/MANUAL: Work involves clerical tasks; following standardized procedures, techniques, or procedures; and carrying out practices according to standards set by a supervisor or employers.

Perform clerical or manual tasks involving intensive understanding of a field, unit or division. Example: May summarize, tabulate, or format data or information, or gather data and information for later evaluation; or perform arithmetic operations including basic geometry or algebra, including computing rates, ratios and/or percents; uses or operates medium use equipment such as chain saws, mowing equipment, and tractors; journeyman level trades work.

Follow instructions or work orders; or read routine sentences, instructions, regulations, or procedures.

Communicate using routine sentences, complete routine job forms and incident reports, or communicate routine information regarding daily activities.

Perform semi-routine work involving set procedures, but which may require problem-solving, serve clients or co-workers, or respond to requests. Requires some decisions that affect a few co-workers.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USAGE
Other tool(s) used in performing essential tasks Employee uses math for determining correct mixtures for herbicides, chain saw, trimmer gas. Uses mowing equipment and fence work, carpentry and roofing. Use of hand tools and power tools used in performing essential tasks.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT

PHYSICAL AND DEXTERITY REQUIREMENTS:Requires work involving:
Standing, sitting, climbing or balancing, tasting or smelling under 1/3 of the time; walking, gripping or feeling with hands, talking or hearing, reaching with hands and arms over 2/3 of the time; stooping kneeling, crouching or crawling 1/3 to 2/3 of the time. Lifting up to 25 pounds over 2/3; Lifting up to 50 pounds 1/3 to 2/3 of the time; Lifting more than 100 pounds under 1/3 of the time.

VISION REQUIREMENTS:
Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less), Color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors), Peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up or down or to the left and right when vision is fixed on a given point), Depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships), Ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus) Distance vision.

POTENTIAL ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS/HAZARDS:
The job may risk exposure to outdoor environment, noise, extreme temperatures, moisture and/or humidity, dust, fumes, mechanical hazards, chemical hazards, and burn hazards. Works with livestock and horned animals.
