Description
Responsible for assisting with the planning and implementation of the County of York Safety Town Program for rising kindergartners.
Teaches life-saving lessons using safety themes regarding strangers, traffic, fire, pedestrian, gun, poison, drug, playground, bus, and weather safety.
Organizes and leads children through class safety lessons and daily activities. Supervises children and activities to ensure safety standards are met at all times.
Program runs for 4 weeks; July through August. Hours of work are Monday through Friday from 8 : 30 am to 12 : 00 pm.
Minimum Qualifications
Must be 18 years of age or older.
Current enrollment or graduation from a college or university degree program is preferred; or any equivalent combination of or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
Must have at least 1 to 2 years of experience working with children and / or experience in the recreation field.
Requires excellent communication and leadership skills.
Must exercise considerable tact and courtesy when interacting with program participants, parents and support staff.
Requires an acceptable criminal background check.
Supplemental Information
Must be available to work a revised schedule when needed.
Criminal background check conducted prior to employment.
Physical Demands
Must be physically able to operate common office equipment such as personal computers, typewriters, copiers, calculators, etc.
Work will involve both sitting and standing. When retrieving supplies and monitoring programs and facilities, work involves some bending, stooping, climbing of stairs, and walking.
There is occasional lifting of boxes, usually nothing weighing any more than 15-20 pounds.
