Salary Range $18.78
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direct supervision of the Tribal Court Director, the Data Entry Court Clerk will perform a wide variety of Court support work requiring substantial knowledge and understanding of court processes and functions.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Input archived case files into the Tribal Court’s case management system. Including scanning case documents, entering party and case information, and ensuring the accuracy of case files in the system.
2. Update the Tribal Court website regularly, to ensure accurate information is available to the public and case parties.
3. Receive and examine legal documents, examine documents for completeness and conformity to court rules, return unacceptable documents, and affix seals and stamps to endorse, certify and/or file documents.
4. Prepare and maintain documents, file legal documents, and related case materials, retrieve and deliver files and documents to court or appropriate parties.
5. Provide information regarding court procedures, answer inquiries and explain legal filing processes, explain fees and fines, assist individuals in locating material and information per the Rules of Court and Tribal Ordinances.
6. Answers the telephone, provide customer service to inquiries, conveys messages, and run appropriate errands.
7. Operate standard office equipment such as Microsoft, computers, copier, fax machine, scanner, calculator, and telephone.
8. Prepare a variety of documents related to court operations including court calendars, notices of hearings, court appearances, and coordinate the flow of documents necessary for court assignments.
9. Receive, screen, and distribute incoming mail to the Judges.
10. Schedule cases on the court calendar promptly.
11. Interact with other Tribal Departments and Tribal Court Programs as necessary.
12. Attend court sessions and take minutes of actions and proceedings.
13. Prepare and review for format and content, a variety of court documents including minute orders and orders after hearings.
14. Organize own work, set priorities, and ensure that critical deadlines are met.
15. Organize and maintain varied general and departmental files, maintain filing systems and purge outdated materials as required; and independently follow up on Court and office matters.
16. Calendar setting and case management for assigned courtrooms.
17. Other related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This is not a supervisory position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must type at least 40 WPM. The incumbent will be required to type accurately at a rate sufficient to produce final documents and enter information into the computer system.
2. Ability to read and interpret legal documents and procedure manuals.
3. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
4. Ability to speak effectively before groups.
5. Must be bondable or meet other requirements by the insurance carrier.
6. Ability to maintain confidential legal documents or information.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
G-5: Two years of education above high school or one year of specialized experience in a legal setting.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying for this position.

6. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must have the ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. With ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
7. REASONING ABILITY: Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral and/or diagram form. With ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
8. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, stand and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to
50 pounds.
9. VISION REQUIREMENTS:
- Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less).
- Color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors).
- Depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships).
- Ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus).
