POSITION TITLE:         General Manager                                       

DEPARTMENT:             Operations                                            

REPORTS TO:              District Manager

FLSA:                            Exempt

COMPENSATION:       $60,000-$71,000 Bonus Eligibility!

                                                                                    

PURPOSE

 

The General Manager is engaging, positive, diligent, organized and knows how to drive their club toward results. The ideal candidate has a take-charge personality and a reputation for getting things done.

As a General Manager, you will direct operations and sales with a focus on your VASA location.

Your job will involve building a team of results-driven, culture-based club leads and employees. You will wake up every day with a clean slate and the opportunity to win again.

 

EXECUTION DELIVERABLES:


  1. Responsible for managing the pace, sales and financial performance, and consistency in the club.
  2. Drive operational goals, objectives, and priorities for Lead roles and responsible for attainment of Club financial results (e.g., membership growth, revenue, club operating profit, fitness revenue, labor, employee turnover and member retention).  
  3. Responsible for the hiring and development of the club team with particular emphasis on recruitment and retention of Lead positions (MEL, FTL, GFSTL, & KCL). 
  4. Responsible for the performance management of team members to maintain consistent company standards, intended in-club brand experience, and financial results.  
  5. Responsible for communicating, upholding, and leading by example to deliver the “House of VASA” approach, purpose, and foundation.
  6. Manage a clean, friendly, and well-maintained club.
  7. Ensure that all team members create and maintain our “UPLIFT” culture in the club.  

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • MANAGING (50%) 
  1. Provide consistent accountability for Leads through training, coaching, conducting planning sessions and performance reviews.
  2. Recognize good performance and take corrective action when necessary.
  3. Hold Leads accountable for driving and delivering results (sales, session service, staffing, etc.)
  4. Control club labor on a weekly basis to meet budget expectations.
  5. Recruit, interview and hire Leads, and participate in final interviews for all club positions to ensure a fully staffed operation.
  6. Participate in District Progression Planning, and talent review process with peer general managers.
  7. Develop Leads by communicating priorities and encouraging the team to achieve results, through significant facetime and coaching. 
  8. Provide direction to Leads to deliver on performance goals and implementation of corporate and district initiatives.
  9. Monitor club facilities to ensure execution of our purpose, and adherence to company programs and initiatives. 
  10. Offer feedback and direction to Leads and team members.
  11. Communicate and execute sales and pricing promotions with Leads.
  12. Resolve escalated member concerns, that are outside the authority of Leads to solve.
  13. Provide resources and direction to ensure that company policies and procedures, including loss prevention, safety, employment, and HR policies are enforced.
  14. Monitor and control retail inventory within the club to drive REVIVE profitability.

 

  • PLANNING AND ORGANIZING (15%) 
  1. Provide direction to the Leads to proactively develop thorough business plans. Ensure that the plans are executed with reoccurring performance checkpoints (see management section).
  2. Establish priorities and goals for member acquisition and retention.
  3. Identify, plan, and execute club improvements.
  4. Facilitate club meetings to ensure alignment with company goals and objectives.
  5. Utilize GM checklist and operational tools to drive daily deliverables.

 

  • LEADERSHIP, COACHING AND LEADING CHANGE (35%) 
  1. Be consistently visible within the club and set the example for providing a great member experience, satisfaction, and team member engagement.
  2. Communicate, lead by example, and motivate your team to understand, and develop passion toward the brand, values and strategy.
  3. Create an inspiring environment for Leads to bring the House of VASA to life. 
  4. Ensure that VASA values are embedded in the management and personnel within the club.
  5. Work collaboratively and build relationships with district support team members and corporate departments (HR, Safety, Loss Prevention, Payroll, Accounting, Operations, IT, etc.) to support company directives and initiatives.
  6. Coaching to drive results
  7. Provide feedback and create a culture of accountability

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

Minimum certifications/educational level:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • High School Diploma or GED required

Experience:

  • 2-4 years of progressive management experience supervising 1-10 employees
  • 2-4 years of broad retail/hospitality/service industry experience
  • Operations management and sales experience
  • Comparable management experience preferred
  • Prior experience in one or more club departments preferred 

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Financial planning and knowledge of P&L statements
  • Ability to work at a fast pace while prioritizing and multi-tasking effectively 
  • Proficiency in sales, marketing, and operations plans
  • Leading a team
  • Passion for fitness industry preferred

 

PHYSICAL & MENTAL ACTIVITIES & REQUIREMENTS 

  • Talking: Especially where one must frequently convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly. 
  • Physical Strength: Non-Sedentary work. Stands, sits, lifts, stoops, kneels, crouches, and bends frequently throughout the day. Must be able to lift up to 50lbs frequently to demonstrate exercises. 
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to deal with a variety of variables under only limited standardization. Able to interpret various instructions and relay instructions to clients.

Work Environment:

  • Work is typically performed in a club with varying hours based on business needs
  • While performing the club duties of this job, the team member is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the environment is occasionally loud
  • Extended workdays are a frequent occurrence. Ability to work a varied schedule to support the needs of the business, including frequent extended workdays, weekends and holidays may be required
