What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dietitian position at Zeeland Public Schools?
- Leads menu planning and recipe and ingredient management in our menu management software.
- Develop seasonal menus and recipes to meet federal nutrition regulations with input from students, parents and staff. Manages effective utilization of commodity inventory.
- Assist with Smart Snack retail program. Researches products, updates product lists and provides guidance to staff.
- Handles request for special diets, communicating with parents, school personnel, food service staff, nurses and physicians. Develops customized strategies for each student to ensure safety and program access. Provides carbohydrates counts to nurses, students and parent for diabetic students. If needed, attends 505 and IEP meetings. Trains food service staff to meet individual student plan needs.
- Develop and provide associate training and leads food allergy & medical condition program compliance.
- Build and implement student centered nutrition education programs.
- Conducts internal audits and monitors district compliance with USDA requirements for school breakfast and lunch programs.
- Maintain the most current nutrition information on all food items (CN Label/Product Formulation).
- Track and use student participation and satisfaction with the menus through monthly features, specialty items, desserts, national food days, promotions (NSLW, etc.), limited-time offerings, etc.
- Publish monthly menus in PDF, Healthe pro and update digital signage. Complete nutrition analyses on all menus to ensure compliance with USDA guidelines.
- Create and maintain tools to assist staff with the menus (hotel pan templates, component guides, central dish guides, production guides for produce, condiments, etc.).
- Assist with administrative and on-site reviews to ascertain compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations concerning free and reduced-price meals, nutrition standards, and sanitation and safety.
- Work in kitchens without one or more staff members.
- Assist in purchasing small and large equipment as needed.
- Establish effective working relationships with building principals, staff, and administration. Participate in professional development activities that enhance personal and professional growth.
- Complies with all district rules, regulations, and policies.
- Other duties as required or assigned.
- Credentialed as a Registered Dietitian by the CDR.
- Excellent communication, multi-tasking and teamworking skills.
- Experience with working in a Food Service environment, K12 school nutrition highly preferred.
- Requires ServSafe Manager Certification or Food Handler Manager Certification
