What are the responsibilities and job description for the Radar Imaging Scientist position at Zendar?
Who we are:
Zendar is creating a high-resolution radar imaging system that has resolution similar to lidar, allowing cars to see in inclement weather. We are a team of electrical, mechanical, software engineers and researchers developing the next generation radar technology. We want to change the role of radar in the autonomous driving sensor stack and demonstrate that radars can take on many of the functions of lidar at a much lower cost and in all weather conditions.
Zendar was founded in the San Francisco Bay area, at the very heart of one of the most advanced regions in the development of autonomous vehicles technologies. We also opened an office in South Germany to capitalize on the decades of experience in the automotive radar industry of the area, and are setting up a new office in Paris.
Zendar has a diverse and dynamic team of electrical, mechanical, RF, algorithms and software engineers with deep background in sensing technology. Zendar is backed by Tier-1 VCs, has raised more than $25M in funding and has established strong partnerships with industry leaders.
Who you are:
In this role you will be responsible for developing approaches to test our radar systems to meet the specifications and needs of our customers. We are looking for an analytical approach to push the limits of our system in real world operations. This role is extremely cross-functional, and will require you to work closely with people from other teams (signal processing experts, platform software engineers, and product development engineers) as they develop cutting edge application software for Zendar’s high resolution radar system. This includes acquiring relevant experimental data, assessing the quality of our system, and providing feedback to team members.
What we look for:
- Bachelor's degree in a scientific or related field, with at least 3 years of relevant experience
- Experience setting up experiments and taking statistical measurements
- Experience with Radars, Lidars, Cameras, and GPS/IMU or other remote sensors
- Proficiency with Python
- Experience with Linux and ROS
- Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Excellent problem solving skills and ability to deal with ambiguity
- Familiarity with professional software development tools, such as source control (git), unit testing, and profiling
Bonus Points:
- Familiarity with signal processing for radars
- Experience with technical writing, drawings, and documentation
- Experience with writing software for performance-critical, real-time systems
- Experience with C and CUDA
- Advanced scientific degree
What We Have to Offer:
- Opportunity to make an impact at a young, venture-backed company in an emerging market.
- Competitive salary. Range for this position, depending on experience, is $110-140k annually.
- Performance based Bonus.
- Benefits including health, vision, dental, life & accident insurance, unlimited PTO, and equity.
- Daily catered lunch and snacks (when working out of the Berkeley, CA office).
- Hybrid work model: In office 3 days per week, the rest... work from wherever!
