Position Summary:
Processes all aspects of defined benefit and Trustee directed defined contribution pension plans for payment/denial by performing the following duties
Responsibilities and Duties
Pension Processing
- Process and review all applications for defined benefit payments in accordance with written corporate and fund procedures.
- Process and review all applications for defined contribution payments in accordance with written corporate and fund procedures.
- Process and review all death benefit applications in accordance with corporate and fund procedures.
- Key all appropriate data into Emerald-Trac system to generate appropriate pension payments in accordance with written procedures.
- Provide written response when application or supporting documentation is incomplete or denial of benefits is appropriate.
- Process Qualified Domestic Relations Orders and tax levies in accordance with written procedures.
- Process all stop-payment requests, overpayments, or payments adjustments in accordance with written procedures.
- Balance assigned fund's monthly benefit totals and notify appropriate personnel to print and mail checks by the published monthly deadline date.
- Maintains all pension applications and other pension documents in folders that are well organized for easy access.
- Keep filing current.
Pension Customer Service
- Respond to all requests for pension applications or withdrawals within 3 working days of request.
- Handle in a professional manner, any telephone calls directed to you by the switchboard operator regardless of fund.
- Provide courteous, professional, and informative information and support to "walk-ins".
- Provide participants with accurate information on benefit programs such as retirement, pension, and disability when requested.
- Return any voice mail or other messages within 24 hours of receipt.
- Handle all requests for information of any type (written, telephone, or E-Mail) within 48 hours of receipt.
- Assist supervisor or manager in handling information requests from fund attorneys, auditors, or actuaries as needed.
- Assist in preparing information for prompt handling of appeals.
- Work with the Eligibility Department in determining entitlement for and payments to participate in applicable retiree and widow health programs.
- Provide and accept assistance within the department or other office areas and extra duties of change of assignment when necessitated by office working conditions.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 2 years of Pension experience. Must have an in-depth knowledge of pension in order to be a resource and aid for staff members.
- Ability to type 45 WPM.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business materials, technical procedures, benefits plans and regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, and percentages.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
