Summary Statement: The purpose of the position is to provide care and maintain the health and welfare of the animals at the Zoology Foundation’s sanctuary.
Reports to: General manager
The Zoology Foundation at Crooked Willow Farms is a non-profit animal sanctuary. Our mission is to inspire positive connections between people, animals, and the environment through education and by providing sanctuary to animals. We are home to a variety of species including: cats, rabbits, ferrets, turtles, snakes, tarantulas, chickens, goats, pigs, camels and more!
Job Responsibilities:
· Daily feeding, cleaning, and watering of the animals
· Clean zoo building and other onsite facilities
· Observe behavior and complete logs for each animal to monitor health
· Provide enrichment for all animals at the zoo
· Socialize new and existing animals at the zoo
· Provide occasional tours and be "the face" for any visitors at the zoo. Must be a happy, positive person that is able to answer questions about the individual animals and the foundation. Must be capable of handling the animals for visitors.
· Groom animals - includes brushing, nail trimming, etc.
· Communicate with animal care team lead and GM about shopping and veterinary needs. Assist with these duties as needed.
· Keep up with current best care practices and USDA standards for the animals at the zoo
· Communicate with other employees at Crooked Willow Farms as needed to complete the care of the animals
· Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Must be able to work with hay and straw
Must be able to lift up to 50lbs on a regular basis
Must be willing to be active and on your feet for long periods of time
Must have reliable transportation
Experience working with animals is preferred
Experience hauling animal trailers is preferred
Schedule:
This animal care specialist will work Saturday-Monday, with a 30-minute lunch break each day. However, they must be willing to be flexible as needs for the animals will vary. Some holiday and evening hours required.
Pay and Benefits:
This is a part time position. Pay starts at $13.00/hour. A 60-day probationary period for employment will be enacted. Vacation days will be accrued by time worked after 60 days of employment.
