We are opening a new location coming to Tybee Island!! Zunzibar offers award winning sandwiches at its restaurant and bar!!

Visit our restaurant and bar in the Historic Downtown Savannah location to find full a bar and dining areas with two unique areas, both dinning and patio? Our dinning has a festive pub atmosphere with live band entertainment most evenings and a four-seasons enclosure, and an open-air pet-friendly deck outside in picturesque downtown Savannah. If you don't have the time to sit down and stay a while, CARRY-OUT meals or on-foot delivery are available.

Job Overview

Monitors the servers and directs traffic, making sure that customers are served and tables cleared as quickly as possible, ultimately responsible for the quality of each diner's experience. Your job starts before customers arrive. You will monitor the servers to make sure they're meeting the restaurant's standards for service and professionalism, assign stations while taking care of your own station.
Understands appearance, attitude and actions play a large part in creating a pleasant atmosphere for you and your team. Your responsibilities include but are not limited to; Guest satisfaction, details of orders, retention of customers, recommendations, supporting the team as needed, communicating with the front and back of the house, maintaining the cleanliness and appearance of the restaurant throughout your shift, knowing current promotions. Keeping your team on tasks and informed.

General Responsibilities

  1. Verify food preparation as needed before bringing to the table.
  2. Regularly perform, participate in, and support training and staff meetings
  3. Review menus, beverage lists, and food specials with other service staff to ensure the staff is properly prepared to attend to customers, review reservations for events.
  4. When a manager is not present or is busy with other tasks, the lead server is responsible for resolving customer complaints with the food or service. For food issues, the lead server makes sure an unhappy guest receives their meal properly prepared or modified to their satisfaction.
  5. Paying close attention to detail, such as placing orders exactly to customer specifications
  6. Follow company policies and procedures regarding the handling property, products, and equipment, make sure your team is doing the same.
  7. Key Communicator between the front and back of the house
  8. Clearly directs others with accurate and detailed information so everyone understands what needs to happen during your shift
  9. Assigns the servers' stations along with smart decision making on bringing servers on when busy and cutting staff when servers are not needed in a fair and responsible manner.
  10. Work closely with the management to ensure team member compliance with the Unit Policy Handbook and any additional regulations or procedures.
  11. Plan, train, and develop team on a continual basis.
  12. Collaborate with other leaders on identifying and building emerging leaders.
  13. Audits inventory levels to ensure product availability
  14. Greet the customer immediately
  15. Offer menu recommendations upon request along with informing customer of the daily specials
  16. Up-sell additional products when appropriate
  17. Explain how various menu items are prepared, describing ingredients and cooking methods
  18. Write accurate food and drink orders, using POS ordering software, order slips, or by memorization
  19. Check customers' ID to ensure they meet minimum age requirements for consumption of alcoholic beverages with a valid ID
  20. Cleaning the bar, tables, chairs, and work area to maintain a sanitary environment
  21. Organizing the bar area to streamline drink preparation and inventory
  22. Placing orders for liquor, beer, wine, and other supplies
  23. Slicing, pitting, and preparing fruit garnishes for drinks
  24. Limiting customer problems by restricting alcohol intake and attempting to curtail inappropriate behavior
  25. Communicate order details to the kitchen staff, Serve food and drink orders promptly
  26. Deliver checks and collect bills for payments
  27. Follow all health department regulation
  28. Perform prep work at the beginning and at the end of your shift
  29. Roll silverware, set up food stations, set up dining areas to prepare for the next shift & large parties
  30. Handle customers' questions and concerns professionally and courteously ensuring guest satisfaction, report these issues to your supervisor in private
  31. Be flexible with your schedule, supporting the needs of the restaurant
  32. Regularly perform, participate in, and support training and staff meetings
  33. Look well-groomed and neatly dressed consistently
  34. Listening carefully to determine the desires of the customer
  35. Interacting sufficiently with customers to build goodwill and attend to their needs, but also being sensitive about giving people their space.

Job Qualifications

  1. High School diploma or equivalent
  2. Have enthusiasm and possess excellent customer service skills, team player a must
  3. Communication and listening skills as well as basic computer knowledge, POS software
  4. 2 years' experience preferred in a lead position
  5. Willingness to work weekends, evenings and holidays as required
  6. Ability to lift 25 lbs., occasionally more
  7. Comfort with noisy, high-volume atmosphere
  8. Capable of working well under pressure, directing staff, communicating with staff & management
  9. Bartending experience is a huge plus!!

Physical Requirements

  1. Ability to speak and hear
  2. Close and distance vision
  3. Standing and walking for long periods of time
  4. Ability to lift 25 lbs./occasionally more
  5. Able to reach hands and arms in any direction and kneel, stoop or crouch repeatedly

Working Conditions

  1. Primarily indoor/outdoor work setting
  2. Outdoor patio and dining area to be served
  3. Varying schedule to include evenings, holidays, and extended hours as business dictates
