Alton Central is a school that accepts all learners of all learning styles. The students and staff honor the concept that everyone can learn. Because of this the Special Education Department works alongside and collaborates with all aspects of Alton Central School. The Special Education Department at ACS provides specialized instruction and programming for those students who have been identified with an educational disability as determined by the Individual Educational Plan (IEP) Team and in accordance with IDEA 2004 and NH Rules 2008. Our goal is to educate all children within the general class environment and we strive to provide services within the least restrictive placement for each individual child. Pull-out specialized instruction is provided based on individual need and based on team decisions made at the IEP team meeting. At ACS we provide specialized programming for students from Preschool (age 3-4) through grade 8 of all types of Disability. In order to ensure appropriate oversee of these students' educational programs, the department is arranged by grade level and specialty with a case manager assigned to each (Preschool, Grade K-2, Grade 3-4, Grade 5-6, Grade 7-8 and Multi-Handicapped). Para Educators are hired to assist teachers and specialists in implementing programs for individual and small groups of students. Related Service specialists such as: Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Counseling, Behavior Management and Evaluation Services are provided by District employees and outside contract services.
