Job Description: The goal of the Vasudevan laboratory is to investigate the specialized gene expression program that promotes the persistence of clinically resistant cancer cells and develop RNA-based therapeutics to curtail disease persistence. Ongoing projects in the lab investigate the mechanisms of regulation of critical genes by RNA binding proteins, circular RNAs, nucleotide modifications, and ribosomes in resistant cancer cells and develop mRNA vaccines and other therapeutics, using human cell lines, stem cells, patient samples, and in vivo models. Job Description: The research assistant will contribute to experimental work in a reproductive toxicology laboratory. Routine job functions will include assisting with rodent study work, benchwork including RNA isolation, real-time PCR, sequencing library preparation, histology, and immunohistochemistry, and laboratory maintenance tasks. The research in Dr. Daniel Spades lab in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine focuses on mechanisms of male reproductive toxicity. The Spade lab seeks to understand the impacts of environmental chemicals and pharmaceuticals male reproductive health. We are currently studying (1) the mechanisms and later life effects of phthalate toxicity to fetal testis development, and (2) the role of RNA in spermatozoa in male fertility and the use of spermatozoa RNAs as biomarkers of fertility and male reproductive toxicity.
