Atwater Brewery was established in 1997 in Detroit's Rivertown district. "One of the main reasons is we've had some products that are unique to themselves and that didn't fall together in the uniform perspective, especially on a crowded beer shelf," said Rieth, whose beer outside of Michigan is sold in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin and Tennessee. "We wanted a collective look on all our packages." The new packaging will place more of an emphasis on the Atwater logo, whereas previously the focus was on the name of the beer. The new logo will prominently feature the Detroit skyline and riverfront. The motto is changing, too, from "Brewed in Detroit" to "Brewed in Detroit.
