Beaufort Academy is a coeducational independent college preparatory school of 250 students in grades Pre-Kindergarten through 12. It is governed by a self-perpetuating Board of Trustees of 14, whose members represent the various constituencies of the school, as well as the community. Beaufort Academy is an independent, non-profit, Judeo-Christian School, which admits students of all races, nationalities, creeds and socioeconomic backgrounds, and is committed to diversity. The campus sits on 24 acres on Lady's Island, just east of Beaufort, and on the Intracoastal Waterway 45 miles north of Savannah and 65 miles south of Charleston. Chartered in 1711, Beaufort is the second oldest city in South Carolina. Parris Island, the Marine Corps Recruiting Depot, the Marine Corp Air Station, and the Naval Hospital contribute to the stability of the economy. Tourism and the shrimp and oyster industry also make significant contributions. The school employs 36 professional educators. The average teaching experience of this faculty is 15 years.
