At Bornhava, we deliver services to preschool-aged children in a variety of ways. Our center-based program focuses on development of motor skills, cognition, communication, social interaction, and growing independence. Each preschool classroom is staffed by a certified special education instructor, two teacher's assistants and therapy providers. A child's needs are addressed in very comprehensive ways. Frequent interaction with typical children continues to be an integral part of the program. This provides the opportunity for children with special needs to benefit from the play and language of age-appropriate play partners. Bornhava's center-based classes meet at 25 Chateau Terrace, in Amherst, New York. Bornhava also provides the option of a Special Class in an Integrated Setting (SCIS), at the Ripen With Us Child Care Center on Kenmore Avenue and at the UB Child Care Center on Baily Ave in Buffalo. We also have a collaborative program with Amherst School District's Universal Pre-K at Windemere Elementary School. Special therapies and educational services are also provided, through Bornhava staff, to children in their own homes or in other community settings (day care centers, libraries, early childhood programs). All these variations in programming are directed by decisions cooperatively made by parents, professionals who have observed and evaluated the child's skills, and the school district's Committee on Preschool Education. Classes are available Monday through Friday, between 9:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., either half or full days, depending on the needs of your child. Your school district's Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) will meet with you to determine what services would be best for your child.
