Bronson Middle/High School is located in Bronson, Levy County, Florida and is approximately 20 miles west, southwest of Gainesville, Florida. BMHS has 337 students in grades 6-8 and 279 in grades 9-12. Our school was first established in 1859 as Bronson School and has been located on its present site for 143 years. In 1984 the elementary students moved to a new site located on East SR 24. The current building, although built in 1938, is equipped with fiber to the classroom walls with a local area network (LAN) that runs at 200 MHZ full duplex. This connectivity is tied back to the district office by a T1 data line and in turn goes out to the Internet through a T3. The Northeast Florida Educational Consortium and the Florida Learning Alliance have been very helpful in helping us to obtain this level of access to the World Wide Web. Through our membership in the School Year 2000 Initiative in the early nineties we set goals and objectives for connectivity. Once this support disappeared we continued to pursue the development of our LAN. We now have a 3:1 student to computer ratio on our campus. This allows us to access Instructional Software over our LAN at a high rate of speed. All traffic out to the Internet is filtered for content. We were CIPA compliant long before CIPA was initiated.
